I would not recommend Avir Irving Nursing Home to anyone who cares about their loved one. My aunt was transferred there after major surgery for a 21-day stay for physical therapy, and the level of care she received was unacceptable.<br><br>She was not given physical therapy daily as ordered by her doctor, yet staff documented in the system that she was receiving it every day, which is simply not true. She developed a severe rash from being left in soiled diapers for long periods. When the call button was pressed, it often took hours for anyone to respond. The only time staff seemed attentive was when family members were present and actively complaining.<br><br>The professionalism of the staff was extremely poor. One tech aide was openly rude and spoke to me with a bad attitude, even telling me to move multiple times. Director Katrice Lee was informed of our concerns several times and repeatedly said she would follow up, but never once did.<br><br>The social worker, Mariam, was also unhelpful and misleading. She told us my aunt’s oxygen would be ready upon discharge, but when my cousin arrived to pick her up at 6:30 p.m., he was told he had to arrange it himself. Mariam insisted my aunt had to leave due to insurance, even without oxygen, saying she would be fine. Meanwhile, the nurse on duty stated they could not safely release her without it.<br><br>We also raised concerns with a man who said he was in charge of the facility. He promised to follow up with my uncle, but never did.<br><br>Basic care was neglected. My aunt went two weeks without a bath—her hair became matted and smelled so bad that I had to wash it myself in her bed. Only after my uncle complained at the front desk did aides finally give her a bath. Additionally, a night shift nurse was overheard speaking negatively about my uncle to staff, unaware he was sitting nearby.<br><br>The facility itself was also concerning. We saw roaches in the restroom, and it was common to hear other residents crying for help with no response from staff.<br><br>The only positive experiences we had were with a few male RNs and one male medication tech. Aside from them, the care was consistently poor, unprofessional, and neglectful. It felt like once insurance coverage became an issue, the priority shifted to pushing patients out rather than ensuring safe and proper care.<br><br>I strongly urge others to look elsewhere when choosing a facility for their loved ones.
