I recently toured Whitney Place in Northborough with a family searching for the right assisted living community for their loved one, and one person made an unforgettable impression: Jim. The best way I can describe him is that he's like the big brother everyone wishes they had. He has a way of making every person feel comfortable, welcomed, and important. What struck me most was that he knew every resident by name, and just as importantly, they clearly knew and loved him in return. You could see the genuine smiles, conversations, and connections throughout the building. Jim's passion for the residents goes far beyond his role. He truly cares about each individual and has created an environment where people feel seen, respected, and at home. That kind of authenticity can't be taught, and it's something families immediately notice when they're making such an important decision. Whitney Place has a warm, welcoming atmosphere, but it's the people, I would wholeheartedly recommend Whitney Place to any family looking for a place where compassion, connection, and exceptional care are part of everyday life.

My aunt has been there two years and is flourishing. Even with her slight memory lapses she is doing amazingly well. The staff must be very caring because she never has a bad thing to say about them. Everyone we met was very polite and accommodating.

We had a great experience with Jim and Deb during the interview and registration process. We knew it would be a good fit for our mom.

Coming to the realization that a parent or grandparent should not live at home alone or without assistance is one of the hardest realizations. There’s the emotional stress and sadness, as well as the massive task of figuring out when, where, and how to move a loved one. My Nana has been one of the most important people in my life, and the reality of her dementia broke my heart. I was the first in my family to start the research, and fortunately I called Jim first in my search. He was very warm and friendly and took time to answer all of my questions. Jim was happy to connect directly with others in my family so I didn’t have to relay the information, which took a lot of stress off me. From the first call, to the tour, to move-in day, and beyond, Jim has been wonderful and attentive to our family—even remembering details I forgot I mentioned—truly showing his care. But even beyond that, Whitney Place has proven to be the biggest blessing for my Nana and for our peace of mind. It seemed like moving her out of her house would take away part of her, but in reality it is helping her truly be herself again in this season of life. When she was home, she was alone most of the time. Now she has friends and a community to be with daily. She exercises multiple times a week again, does crafts and activities, eats well, and has the active social calendar she always used to have. She is also safe and looked after in her community, which is huge when your parent or grandparent lived alone before. The peace of mind from all of this is overwhelming—especially since I had to move out of state and could no longer care for her or visit as often as I used to. To know that she was just surviving at home, and now her life is being enriched again, means everything. It’s not just adding years to her life, but adding life to her remaining years. It’s truly a gift from God for her and for our family. Thank you, Jim and the Whitney Place staff, for the wonderful community you have cultivated and for the care you give every day to our beloved elders.
