Beautiful place but don’t let that fool you. Most of the staff doesn’t care like they should. Residence are often unattended. My grandmother recently passed after a rough couple last days of her life. If it wasn’t for family I’m not sure my grandma would have gotten the care she deserved in her final moments with us. (Yes I am aware that there are much worse places.) Don’t get me wrong some of the staff is great, but the others are awful. ( ex: Ashlee and Ashley are both WONDERFUL. Jamaica not so much…). The people who don’t care will blame it on staffing issues, but I think it stems from something much higher than that. Let’s be real, I’ve been in multiple sectors of the healthcare field for about a decade and lets face it ….EVERYONE(including non medical facilities ) are short staffed. That doesn’t mean you stop caring or doing yoir job. These residents despite their age,health, or lack of cognitive ability are STILL PEOPLE!!! Caring for residences and their families should be your top priority or you shouldn’t be in healthcare at all. Long story short, this place is OK, but you will still absolutely have to advocate for your loved one and keep a watchful eye! Your loved one deserves better then Sotry Cottage.
