I’ll start by stating that in the past, we had another family member stay at Creekside probably 8 to 10 years ago and thought that the care there was incredible. Unfortunately, due to some expected health events, another family member has had a stay at Creekside. After having a few unexpected surgeries, we chose Creekside because a good experience in the past. Unfortunately, we can’t say the say the same happened this time around. I’ll have to say that we are very disappointed in the “care” my mother received. It’s hard to call it care. There were a few people that did, but the majority clearly did not. The administor in advance was very friendly and we really appreciated her kindness, I believe she’s very genuine and means the best. I feel for her because unfortunately her staff doesn’t follow after her example. I feel sad for the fact that she has to take the brunt of what I have to say. My mother had been through so much physical suffering for several weeks due to set backs from surgeries. We left her in the care of people we thought we could trust. She was admitted to rehab because she’s couldn’t walk anymore. She had no strength to take care of herself. She needed help. They didn’t care who she had been; the strong loving individual that she had been. They only thought of her as a body, an old wrinkled up woman. They didn’t care. They left her soiled in her dirty clothes, even after she requested help. Her room smelled. I left the building with my shoes, smelling like urine. When we asked staff members to take care of her. They would be on their computers or cell phones behind the counter and we just look at us, that’s if they could be found. One day the toilet was full of unmentionable disgust, and we requested that they would take care of it. The room smelled horrible, my mother was having dry heaves, they left the room smelling for over an hour and a half, yet it was still left unaddressed. There was one nurse that did care, she was embarrassed and overworked. She apologized and said that she would take care of things herself and understood how we felt. It really wasn’t her job to clean the mess, but she did. From day one this one nurse was always willing to step above and beyond to do her job. There were some workers that we would see every time we walked in the doors (morning or night) almost as if they never slept. Maybe they slept in the building, who knows. I’m not sure what that meant to me other than they were overworked possibly or were only there for the money themselves. The last day my mom was in Creekside we shared tears because I couldn’t care for her the way I expected a care facility like Creekside to care for her. I knew I couldn’t do what they should be doing for her. She needed to be changed regularly at this point. She had medication’s that needed to be given. She couldn’t walk, she couldn’t care for herself anymore. She was discouraged and in pain. She was no longer this strong, loving woman physically that she wanted to be. She needed help. I apologize to her that I couldn’t do more and we shared tears. She told me as I wiped her tears, “please don’t recommend this place to anybody” and told me “this is not a good place.” The next day she ended up in the hospital with bleeding and was hospitalized for the next several days. I would never recommend Creekside to any family member or friend that wants their loved one cared for in the most difficult times of life. My mother even mentioned one night when the “caregivers” were transferring her with a patient lift from the reclining chair in her room to her bed that she questioned how they were moving her. She said, no this isn’t the way you’re supposed to move me. They said fine, spun her and dropped her in bed! Pain and all! No pain meds for 2 hours! Until Creekside is able to change their staff and management, the State of Indiana should administer some health education and corrective action. I’m sad for the people who were left to their care. I hope corrective action is taken immediately.
