When we realized that Mom was declining and needed more assistance, we knew we had to make a very important decision.
Our biggest priority was her safety. But beyond that, we wanted Mom to be somewhere she would be loved, respected, happy, and truly cared for.
My sisters and I searched throughout Long Island. We visited different places, we asked questions, and we tried to imagine Mom living there. But, honestly, we left many of those places disappointed. Something was missing. We knew in our hearts that Mom deserved more.
And then we walked into The Bristal at East Northport.
There was an immediate feeling that was very difficult to explain.
We felt like we were home.
My sisters and I come from a very loving family. We have always been incredibly close. We have always been there for each other, through the good times and the difficult times. Family has always meant everything to us.
So when we walked into The Bristal and experienced the warmth of the staff, the kindness, the genuine smiles, and the way everyone made us feel welcome, we knew we had found something very special.
It wasn’t just a beautiful place.
It felt like family.
From the very beginning, the staff surrounded Mom with love, patience, kindness, and care. They supported not only Mom, but all of us. They understood how difficult this transition was for our family, and they gave us something we desperately needed—peace of mind.
And then we saw something that told us we had made the right decision.
Mom was happy.
She began to make friends. She became comfortable. She smiled. She settled in. And before long, she started calling The Bristal home.
Sometimes we take Mom out for lunch or bring her out for a little visit. We spend time together, laugh, and make memories.
But when it’s time to bring her back, she’ll sometimes say,
“I want to go home.”
And every time she says it, our hearts fill with emotion.
Because we know exactly what she means.
She means The Bristal.
As daughters, there is no greater comfort than knowing that the person who spent her life taking care of us is now being cared for with that same love.
We know Mom is safe.
We know she is cared for.
We know she is loved.
And most importantly, we know she is home.
The Bristal didn’t just give Mom a place to live.
They gave Mom a home, gave our family peace of mind, and gave all of us another family to love.
For that, we will always be grateful

An Exceptional Place for My Mom — The Bristol, East Northport

My 84-year-old mom moved into The Bristol in East Northport in June, and I can honestly say that choosing this community has been one of the best decisions my sisters and I could have made for her — and for our family.

From the very beginning, we were welcomed by Paul, the Community Relations Director, Simone, the Director of Case Management and Shareese, the Director of Reflections. Each of them has gone above and beyond in ways that are difficult to put into words. Their professionalism and skill are exceptional, but what stands out even more is their compassion, kindness, genuine love, and the way they care for my mom as a person.

Their communication with our family has been extraordinary. They keep us looped in, they answer our questions, they text us, they check in, and they are there for us when we need them — whether it’s a weekday, weekend, daytime, or evening. We never feel out of the loop or like we are navigating this alone. That level of communication gives our family an incredible sense of peace.

But the greatest testament to The Bristol is my mom herself.

She is happy.

She is thriving.

She is eating well. She is cared for, dressed, groomed, engaged, and encouraged. She plays games, participates in activities, does art and crafts, interacts with others, and genuinely enjoys her days. And she LOVES the food!

The difference in my mom compared to where she was before is truly night and day. I had gotten to a point where I thought, maybe this is just what life looks like now. I thought the decline, the lack of engagement, and the way things felt were simply something we had to accept.

Then we came to The Bristol.

And I realized it didn’t have to be that way.

Seeing my mom happy again has been one of the greatest gifts. Watching her participate, smile, eat, create, engage, and feel cared for has reassured us that we made the right choice.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t speak specifically about Shareese and the absolutely extraordinary care she brings to Reflections and to my mom. She is, quite simply, exceptional. The kind of person you hope and pray will be caring for your loved one when you can’t be there yourself. Shareese does everything with her entire heart. Her compassion, patience, attentiveness, warmth, and genuine love shine through in everything she does. She has a way of bringing light into a place that could otherwise feel very sad or difficult, and somehow she makes it feel warm, joyful, and full of life. She sees my mom, she knows her, she understands her, and she cares about her deeply. She goes above and beyond in ways that are extraordinary, and you can feel that none of it is simply a job to her — she truly cares. Shareese is an angel on earth, and the love and light she brings to Reflections is something our family will never take for granted. We feel incredibly blessed that my mom is in her care.

To Paul, Simone, Shareese, and the entire team at The Bristol — thank you. Thank you for caring for my mom with such dignity and compassion. Thank you for caring for our family, too. Thank you for communicating with us, reassuring us, including us, and most importantly, for seeing my mom as more than a resident.

You have given her a place where she is not simply being cared for — she is living, engaging, and thriving.

We are incredibly grateful, and I would wholeheartedly recommend The Bristol to any family looking for a place where their loved one will be genuinely cared for and valued. Our experience has been nothing short of exceptional.

The staff at the Bristal is outstanding. They take care of my mother as if it was their own. The care of the aides and particularly Maria has been more than we could ever imagined. To know your 94 year old mother is surrounded by people that care for as if she was family has provided our family with tremendous comfort. We could not rate the Bristal at East Northport and their staff any higher. Truly outstanding.

I wanted to thank Paul at The Bristal in East Northport for spending time with me and my dad a few weeks ago. My dad was against moving from his home of 60 years. We walked around the community and met other residents and staff. Simone made us laugh and it was a very good experience. My dad peaked in to the Mens Club and met a man named Richard. They chatted for a few minutes. Very Clean community. It really was eye opening for my dad. On the way home he told me that he is ready to deposit and move in the Spring. Thank you to the Bristal for making what I thought would be a difficult conversation into a simple decision for my dad.
