I lived here for three years and have been gone three years. I've waited to be objective in my review. Central Station is a convenient neighborhood to live. Sr suites model of affordable living might work for a few months for someone in transition. However it is more expensive than Hud or Chi ago public Housing a d offers far less. It is for profit and skimps. STAFF never stayed long, we're usually incompetent being poorly paid. The building was never fully staffed. Hostile staff created an unfriendly environment though residents were nice in a mixed ethnic environment. I think the whole model of so_called affordable housing is flawed and doesn't offer a good alternative to HUD housing for any senior in need of financial help. HuD housing has its own set of Problems but is a better alternative to explore.

Today (8/16/24) a resident had a medical emergency and the first responders were trying to get in the building for over 30 minutes. No staff was present to let them in and the police even came and tried to assist them getting access. The police said the building is supposed to have technology in place to allow the doors to open for them during an emergency. This incident was dangerous and shameful and prolonged the resident getting emergency medical attention. Where was the staff????

Hello. Maybe it's too soon to write a review about this building, but after living here the past 20 days, I am happy with the place. The staff is caring & sincere about the things that concern inside * outside the bldg. We do need a maintenance person every day

My 71-year-old father relocated to this building from the northern suburbs at the recommendation of his sister following a disabling illness in 2020. He is now roughly equidistant from his family members. The building and staff seemed wonderful at the beginning. The rent was affordable, allowing him to maintain an active lifestyle while he returned to his part-time medical practice and teaching. If memory serves me correctly, there was no on-site property manager at the time that he moved in. The parent organization, Senior Lifestyle, considered several property management candidates. Eventually, someone named LaTasha Tolbert was brought on and it has been downhill ever since. LaTasha Tolbert and I first met when I had dropped my father off one afternoon. Since he cannot safely drive alone, family members and rideshare help him get where he needs to go. My father rents an assigned parking space at the building since he is a vehicle owner. Once he was unloaded, I parked our vehicle in the assigned space, as I had been doing without issue for roughly a year prior to LaTasha's arrival. Once we had wrapped up, LaTasha, with nothing better to do in a building with almost one hundred units, decided to follow me out of her office and into the gated parking lot to tell me that the rules had changed and that I could not park in his space. When I tried to briefly discuss the illogical nature of the new policies chasing a non-existent problem, she became incredibly hostile and disrespectful. She also proceeded to present herself as a "managing broker" when she is not a real estate licensee in any capacity. As a licensee and REALTOR myself, I was able to see that she was a leasing agent student at one time, but not since she has taken on this job. Again, mind you, this is a gated parking lot with numbered assigned spaces. It is not clear to me how anyone could gain access to the lot without being a resident of the building. Further, there has not been a single occasion where an unknown vehicle has been parked in my father's assigned space, and neither has this been an issue for any other residents we have spoken to. Our family has four vehicles as a result of a business venture. My father had been rotating the vehicles using and parking one at the building and keeping the others in our garage in the suburbs. This made the new registration system that limited residents to only one registered vehicle--including barring any loaners, etc. suspiciously inconvenient for our particular situation. When things escalated to Lisa Reed at Senior Lifestyle, I became acquainted with additional stupidity. Ms. Reed made false allegations against me claiming that we were running a business from the parking lot. LOL. No one has ever met anyone for any business purposes at Senior Suites. Any car with my dad at the lot is for his personal use. LaTasha has been exceptionally ineffective, rude, and ignorant when it comes to managing the building itself. For a senior building, there is very little service and the front desk is staffed strictly during business hours. Weekends, holidays, bad weather, etc. you are shot out of luck. However, even with staff present, many maintenance items go deferred or unresponded to. When closet doors fell off in his unit, it took months to get them rehung. A light fixture that was broken around the same time has remained in disrepair for a year or more. A leak in the sink took more than a week to get resolved and an issue with the showerhead required multiple requests and trips. When water from my father's shower flowed down into the unit below, LaTasha's initial instinct appeared to be to blame my father when it turned out that the shower simply needed to be recaulked. On multiple occasions, my father's current account has been mistakenly debited for rent at Central Station and another Senior Lifestyle complex. The funds have been refunded each time upon request, but on a senior income, any instability can be potentially devastating. For all her bluster about the parking lot, LaTasha routinely parks in the one handicapped parking at the building. She has no placard. A number of residents have mentioned this and it has been mentioned to Senior Lifestyle, but it keeps happening. Do you know who has a placard? My father, some of the residents, and I do too. Unfortunately, a new issue is on my mind and this is why I'm taking to Yelp to make clear that no one should consider Senior Suites as anything remotely acceptable for their older relative. LaTasha's "management" of the building amounts to elder abuse and harassment. I cannot understand why LaTasha can't find a way to actually help the residents of the building. Thank goodness she was recently fired. It was a long time coming. Evil and seniors should not mix.

I lived here for 4 years, at first it was nice but after four months it went down hill fast. They were no better than slum lords. The property manager was changed about every six months. The last was Latasha, she had nothing fixed and was very rude, I moved four months ago. Only thing done was increase the rent every year. Stay away from this place.
