We chose Freedom Care assisted living facility for my father after touring it with a social worker who recommended it along with a few other facilities. The home manager, Ben, said all of the right things to us so that we would choose his facility. Unfortunately, once my father was in their care, the things that Ben had promised would occur did not. Those things being that they would work on getting my father up and out of bed and help him gain his strength back so that he could go back home to be with my mom. Also, he said that they would have no problem making sure he could sit on the toilet to go to the bathroom instead of wearing briefs which were so degrading to my father. One positive thing that occurred while he was there was that Ben and his caregivers were able to get a bedsore to heal that my father had arrived with from the rehabilitation facility where he had been prior to Freedom Care. We were very thankful for that! Unfortunately, when my father’s health worsened, he ended up needing hospice and passed away in the care of Ben and his caregivers. We were extremely disappointed that my mother was informed of my father’s passing through a text message that Ben sent to her on the morning of his passing. This was very shocking and unprofessional. That type of thing should be communicated through a phone call or face to face. Also, Ben was nowhere to be found when we arrived at the assisted living facility to say goodbye to my father before he was taken to a funeral home to be cremated. We reached out to Ben, and he said he was at another one of the homes he manages and was admitting new patients. My father was already in his care, and it would have been respectful to pay his condolences to us instead of worrying about new patients and more money. It was hurtful, and we don’t recommend this facility for anyone else’s loved one!
