The majority of the Memory care staff are not helpful and not nice. When a resident needs something it seems like a burden. The floors in the private rooms are supposed to be cleaned once a week and they are not. The garbage is supposed to be taken out daily but I've visited 3 days later and the same garbage was there. I have talked to the staff about these issues repeatedly and nothing is done. The regional director took pictures of the neglected room I complained about and still nothing was done. I visit often. These issues are reoccuring.

The time to talk was when it was happening. No one was interested or contacted me personally. Frankly the rote reply to a public post, further putting the onus on me to contact you, is exactly the type of poor management and lack of caring I have already experienced. I would think you would have at least been interested in review protocols to avoid a situation like this in the future for your other residents. I guess not. Review below:

My mother was only at Atria Great Neck Memory Care for 1.5 months. In my opinion they almost killed her. From talking and using chopsticks to rigid, drooling and non-responsive within 10 days. I have been stonewalled by management as to what happened. Through my own inquiries I found that on her arrival an as needed narcotic was changed to twice a day every day!, then not even given for a month, and then randomly started – which I believe is what brought on and exacerbated this condition. I was told over and over that a psychiatric NP prescribed it and would call me. I was never called and denied the contact info when I asked for it. Turns out the NP did not prescribe it! She wasn’t even at the facility the day it was started. I don’t think they even realize this. There are no notes in my mother’s folder of a nurse visit, incident, or diagnosis requiring the narcotic on a daily basis. I was told it was a low dose as if that made everything ok.

After starting the narcotic twice a day, 10 days later they finally called for her to be taken to the ER; in my opinion probably 3-4 days too late given that by that time she was so drugged that she hadn’t been eating much or taking some of her medicines, she was barely conscious. How was she allowed to get to this point? In addition, in the ER it was found that she had 2 of her daily medicine patches on her, 1 with no date and another with a date of 3 days before. Did no one look at her or give her her medicine for 3 days? Who knows. In my opinion there has been a complete lack of urgency, meaningful investigation, or communication with me given the seriousness of the events. I literally had to email requesting the courtesy of a response.

I also spoke to the pharmaceutical company to try to find out who ordered the drugs. When I told them that she was in the hospital and now in a different facility they told me that Atria hadn’t even called them to let them know she was no longer there for the past 11 days which was against their protocols. In my opinion there was negligence and or incompetence, keeping me in the dark, and plain rudeness; no accountability or professionalism in their actions and communications. So yeah, I give them ZERO stars.

PS - Now after 2 months away from there, no more narcotics, and competent care, luckily she has regained most but not all of her functioning.
