BUYER BEWARE...If I could give ZERO STARS I would. Village Green was better...

My mom is currently residing in one of the memory care units and while I absolutely love some of the staff on the floor (aides) that do the heavy lifting and actually care for the residents...some of the administrative staff could use empathy training in order to understand that dementia patients are not in control of their faculties. Therefore, rather than call 911 when a resident seems dysregulated there should be a clear de-escalation plan that is shared with families. Our family asks for transparency with the medication regime and have not received that.

The place is basically just a locked facility and even that is flimsy as residents can set off the alarm and head towards the elevator.

Make sure you visit any facility daily and at different times to get an accurate picture of what's going on.

If you are considering placing a loved one in a Memory Care unit at an assisted living facility, insist on a clear, written explanation of exactly what “day-to-day care” and “monitoring” include — especially regarding food and liquid intake. I’ve learned the hard way that what most families consider standard “care” can differ significantly from how a facility defines it.

I also wish I hired a Geriatric Care Manager to help us find the right place for Mom.

My mother lives in the Memory Care unit at Atria Levittown (formerly Village Green). My disappointment stems directly from the gap between the expectations set by prior management and the reality we’ve experienced. In a written communication, the facility promised that residents would be “routinely monitored for safety, comfort, and changes in condition.” I reasonably understood this to mean that meaningful changes would be documented and promptly shared with family. That has not been my experience.

For example, I expected to be notified by email if Mom was not eating or drinking adequately, since that clearly qualifies as a “change in condition.” No such notifications came — even in the weeks leading up to her hospitalization for acute kidney failure. I am not claiming the facility caused this outcome. My core concern is the lack of communication. If my sister had not noticed how unwell Mom looked and rushed her to the ER, the situation could have become far worse.

When I raised this with management, I was told that this level of detailed monitoring and family notification is not standard in assisted living. That
important limitation was never mentioned during our initial meeting about Mom’s individualized Service Plan, and I didn’t know to ask.

I’ve since spoken with the new director and upper management. I am cautiously optimistic that they are committed to better communication and transparency. That said, until I see consistent, meaningful improvements in care and updates, I feel I must leave this one-star review.

I brought my Mom to this community in May of 2024. She was beginning to show signs of dementia and could no longer remain in her home. From the start, the entire staff went over and above in accommodating this very difficult transition. This was not a perfect arrangement by any means, but she was well taken care of every step of the way. The majority of the aides were very caring and loving. These people are doing extremely difficult work, so it’s unrealistic to think every aide is going to give the same level of care. The family needs to be present and participate to ensure the best results. The meals here were quality, and her room was nice. The entire place was always very clean, and the environment was warm and friendly. There were always plenty of activities available to her each day. There was no pressure if she didn’t want to participate, but they always made sure she was included in anything going on. As her dementia worsened in the fall of 2024, the staff was very good at keeping me informed on what was happening with her when I wasn’t there. I felt they were on top of things and that gave me some valuable peace of mind. As the issues arose surrounding her decline, the management team led by Executive Director Jessica Pascuzzi, was always accessible and responsive to all my concerns and addressed them promptly as they came up. In early 2025, mom could no longer live safely in the assisted living, and required more specialized memory care. Jessica and team were able to help me navigate through yet another difficult transition, and kept my budget in mind, as mom was moved over to their memory care unit. In memory care, she had access to more specialized activities and there were more eyes on her. As more issues came up with her failing health , the director of Memory Care Tonya DiGiacomo was on top of it and worked closely with me. When it was time for hospice care- the case worker on staff did all the leg work and it was another smooth transition. In August my Mom passed away peacefully and comfortably. These people take pride in what they do and it shows. I highly recommend.
