My wife and I have lived at Beacon Hill Terrace just two months. We sold our home of 47 years within a few days of moving in. The city of Minnetonka has been a favorite for many years. Just a year ago we came to look at the community. The experienced staff including Melissa and Luke welcomed us and introduced us to residents and staff as we looked at a two bedroom apartment. Several months later we got the call that there was an upcoming vacancy. We had already toured several other facilities over the past few years and were on waiting lists. We liked Beacon Hill best. It is surrounded by a beautiful neighborhood with mature trees and nearby parks. The grounds, that is our back yard, is magnificent. The people who live here are kind, thoughtful, wise and welcoming. The community hums with cheerful resident volunteers. It’s great that it is a non profit institution. You may think rent is high but If you are accustomed to the expense and work of home ownership you should be prepared for a drastic decrease in both. Heat, AC, water, garbage, recycling, snow removal, landscape maintenance, and taxes are included. My electric bill is a miniature of my previous one. My renter’s insurance is a tiny fraction of homeowner’s insurance. And there are two friendly and skillful handymen who respond quickly to phone requests for repairs. I have seen spare appliances in the basement. The apartments have an efficient laundry in each apartment. Ours is a Bosch which is premium stuff. The building is always clean. There is an evening meal available with reservation. That can be an occasional relief or a bit of regular help. There is a savings if one buys a subscription. We cook… but go for the companionship sometimes. Heated parking is available for small charge. They have several transportation events scheduled in a comfortable vehicle with an excellent driver. We feel completely at home and are fond of our neighbors. If we are fortunate enough to eventually need more care it is available on site. I suppose we are among the younger residents. I am glad that I was strong enough to participate in the labor of moving and I encourage others to visualize the future sooner rather than later.
