My family member was brought here for knee rehab. This place should be shut down. I have no idea how this received high ratings! Dig deeper and you will see the real reviews. The carpets were filthy. Urine odor throughout the building was unbearable. The food was something I wouldn't feed to a dog. The rehab wing was all the way in the back. The refrigerator and freezer did not work properly and the knee did not get iced properly for swelling and did not have the compression socks nor monitored for blood clots. The medications were given incorrectly at times. Meals were forgotten. There was no physical therapy for several days which also slowed the rehab progress. The few sessions she did finally receieve of physical therapy were good. The nurses and aides were understaffed. A few were very kind, however some were neglectful and nasty. The facility was not helpful with the discharge process or aftercare. I do not recommend putting your loved one in this facility for any reason. I understand that these are very difficult jobs however human life should be valued at any age or condition of life.

Our Dad was in Highland hospital diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. His safe discharge plan was to a skilled nursing facility for end of life palliative care. It was a terrifying situation, but we were so incredibly blessed that Dad landed in Penfield Place. Our immediate first impression was the facility is well maintained and clean. The atmosphere is bright and cheerful. Seasonal decor for whichever current major or minor holiday abounds (we saw a rotation of fun stuff all over for Christmas, Valentines and St Patricks). Dad loved looking out his room window at the abundant wildlife casually wandering through, all kinds of birds, squirrels, and a lovely herd of deer that all enjoy sharing the bird feeders that surround the building. Dad enjoyed every meal he was served with such enthusiasm and gusto he wound up on aspiration watch. Amenities and services include fantastic on-site laundry, visiting podiatry, weekly hair stying and so much more. But the best thing by far about Penfield Place is the staff. We cannot imagine finding a more competent, caring and compassionate crew anywhere. The administrator Mr Rubens takes a hands-on, highly visible approach. We saw him pitching in with stuff like clearing snow from exits and installing new equipment on the nurse's med carts. He keeps his finger on the pulse of his facility and his staff to make sure they all have what they need to excel at their function. We wish we could list by name every member of the staff, they are all outstanding. Nursing and resident care, facilities and maintenance, Activities, food services, Physical/Occupational/Speech Therapy, Social Work, administrative, business and support staff, everyone was so impressive. Just imagine how touched we are that over a dozen of them came to the funeral home to hug, laugh and cry with us! Mom said it best: "They looked after Dad like they were all taking care of their own fathers."

My 83 year old mother broke her hip and needed rehab after leaving the hospital. The care she received at Penfield Place was wonderful! The staff were all professional and well trained. Every staff member that we interacted with was knowledgeable, professional, kind and respectful. The OT and PT are excellent at motivating their clients. We would highly recommend this small, renovated , rehab facility!

What an excellent experience my family had at Penfield Place! After getting out of the hospital recently, our father recently spent three weeks in the rehab section of the facility. I worked closely with the Director of Social services to get my Dad admitted. She answered all my questions before and during his stay. She also provided updates on insurance coverage appeals, therapy progression and worked closely with the social worker from his assisted living facility to get him back there. Many thanks to her. The nursing staff was awesome! The care and patience they provided were very apparent and much appreciated. All questions regarding insurance payments were answered by the very knowledgeable Business Office Manager. Every staff member was friendly and helpful when anything was needed. Last and definitely not least, the facility was clean and well maintained with generous visiting hours. I only hope they have an open bed if ever my father needs to go to rehab again. Thank you all!

My brother Tim, spent the last several weeks of his life at Penfield Place. We found the staff to be kind and compassionate. It is evident that staff members work hard on behalf of the residents who live there. They are responsive and knowledgeable about caring for the elderly. The facility is clean and bright. The single rooms offer quiet and private surroundings. We would highly recommend Penfield Place.
