I think many of the high ratings I see so far are from a lot of people who haven't actually lived at this facility yet, but have just taken the tour. I, too, was impressed when I toured the facility. But now that my loved one has been living there, so far, I'm not impressed at all. It was clearly designed by someone who was cutting corners wherever possible, and by someone who isn't experienced in senior living facilities. It looks nice on first glance, but once you dig a little deeper, you see the flaws.

There is a consistent odor of sewer gas in certain parts of the building at certain times of day that no one seems to be able to explain. To be fair, people have noticed it for awhile now all along the new development along State Road 421 in Zionsville, so although it may not be unique to Holliday Farms, there's something wrong happening with the way the sewage is being handled with new development in Zionsville.

A few very obvious things I've noticed in the resident's rooms that are terrible are 1. The bathrooms have a built in vent that stays on 24/7 and they are not quiet at all. The constant noise is irritating. 2.The HVAC wall units are so cheap that they don't even have movable louvers so the fan constantly blows right where my loved one sits and there's no way to change the direction, which I've never seen in an HVAC unit. I'm guessing this was just a way to cut corners, and it says a lot about how much thought was actually put into the design. 3. There are no magnetic catches on the doors if they want to keep them open to be social, so the door just slams shut (loudly.)

It's the little things that can make the difference between a senior feeling content and at home, or not. You can make the entrance as fancy-looking as you want, but in the end, it's the details that are used daily that really matter, and those seem to have been overlooked.

As far as the actual care, as with any place, there are some employees who are amazing, and others who are not. The amount of training they receive is definitely questionable, and many of the systems that exist and are well-run at other facilities (such as reporting, communication, etc.) don't seem to be set up yet.(clearly not the employees faults, but rather the management company)
We were warned to not move a loved one into a new facility because inevitably, all the kinks aren't worked out yet, and this is proving to be very true at Holliday Farms Senior Living.

My dad has been at Holliday Farms for a few months now, and the staff have been wonderful. Kind, attentive, and clearly good at what they do. It's a real relief knowing he's in their care.

My mother just loves it there. She’s more active than ever. It would absolutely be a five star, but the only problem is, there is still a sewer smell in the hallways. This can’t be healthy for the residents.
Great food and everyone working there is so nice and friendly.

It is mostly great living here. I am in assisted living and recently they have been separating us from each the independent living so I am not seeing people I have met in the past. Since there are only about 6 of us in assisted living we are only interacting with a few people. Also the doors are heavy and need handicapped access buttons to open them. And they close quickly. I can walk but am afraid the doors closing will knock me down if I try using them on my own. The place is beautifully decorated and the staff is very nice.
