I am writing this review on behalf of my aunt, who has been the sole caregiver for her nonverbal, bedridden, hospice‑level mother for the past six years. She entrusted Prairie Estates Skilled Nursing Center with her mother’s care for one weekend, and what she walked into when she returned was shocking, dangerous, and completely unacceptable. Despite leaving clear, detailed written instructions, Prairie Estates ignored every single one. This was not a misunderstanding. This was blatant neglect of a vulnerable adult who cannot speak for herself. My aunt found her mother sitting in feces long enough for it to be up her back. The incontinence pads she provided were never used. Her clothing was not changed. Her hydration and feeding routine—critical for her comfort and survival—was ignored. These are not optional tasks. These are the bare minimum standards of human care. The overwhelming odor in the hallway made it obvious this wasn’t an isolated incident. This is a facility-wide problem, not a one‑off mistake. And when staff immediately respond with “I just got here,” it says everything: No accountability. No communication. No ownership. Just excuses while residents suffer. My aunt also found her mother in a 64‑degree room, underdressed, barely covered, isolated, and left with no stimulation. For a dementia patient, this is not just uncomfortable—it is cruel in effect. Environment is part of care. Prairie Estates failed at that too. What happened here was not a lapse. It was a systemic breakdown in care, professionalism, and basic human decency. Prairie Estates did not provide the services they are contracted to deliver. They did not protect a vulnerable adult. They did not uphold even the lowest standard of dignity. My aunt is fortunate enough to advocate for her mother and ensure she never returns. But many residents there have no one watching. And based on what she witnessed, they are being left to suffer in silence. Prairie Estates should not be trusted with the care of anyone’s loved one. Families deserve transparency. Our elders deserve dignity. This facility delivered neither.

As my grandmother’s family, it was heartbreaking to see the condition she was in at Prairie Estates.

My aunt trusted this facility with my grandmother’s care while we were out of town, and very specific instructions were left for her hygiene, feeding, comfort, and wound care. Unfortunately, those instructions were not followed.

When we returned, it was obvious she had not been properly changed or cared for. Her clothing was soiled, her room was cold, and she looked uncomfortable. Supplies that were specifically provided for her personal care and wound treatment were left untouched.

What was most upsetting is knowing how much care and effort my aunt puts into her every single day. My grandmother is always clean, dry, comfortable, and well cared for at home. To see such a drastic difference in only a few days was alarming.

No family should leave a loved one in respite care and return to find signs of neglect. This experience was deeply disappointing and unacceptable.

If I could speak for myself, I would tell you I was cold, uncomfortable, and not cared for the way I deserved at Prairie Estates. I am bedridden, vulnerable, and fully dependent on others to keep me clean, dry, warm, and safe. My daughter made sure to leave detailed instructions, my personal supplies, and everything needed for my comfort and wound care. She trusted this facility to do what they agreed to do. They did not. I was left sitting in a cold room with little covering, my door closed, and no comfort around me. My clothing was soiled. My wound care was ignored. The products meant to protect my skin were left untouched. My meals and snacks were not given as instructed. My daughter takes care of me every day, and she knows my standard of care. She knows I am usually clean, dry, warm, and protected. So when she walked in and found me in the condition I was in, she knew immediately something was wrong. People like me cannot speak up when something hurts, when we are uncomfortable, when we are cold, or when we have been sitting too long. We rely on others to care enough to do the right thing. At Prairie Estates, I did not feel like I mattered. Thankfully, my daughter came back for me.

If I could them no stars i would. I would not recommend Prairie Estates in Frisco for respite care. My mother is a bedridden hospice patient with stage 4 dementia, and I left very clear written instructions for her care, along with all of the supplies needed to properly maintain her hygiene, skin, and wound care. Those instructions were personally reiterated multiple times by me, my hospice social worker, and my nurse. Despite this, staff failed to follow even the most basic care plan. The incontinence pads I provided to protect her skin and wound were never used. Her wound care supplies were untouched. Her clothes were not changed appropriately throughout her stay, and when I picked her laundry up, she had feces all over the back of her clothing. This is unacceptable for any patient, especially one who is bedridden and unable to advocate for herself. Her feeding instructions were ignored as well. She was not given her morning smoothie or snacks as instructed. The condition of the facility itself was equally concerning. The hallways smelled strongly of urine, which immediately raised concern about the overall quality of care for all residents. There was visible filth, including feces on the sink and food left sitting in the common area without being cleaned. When I arrived, my mother was sitting in a room at 64 degrees with minimal covering, no television on, and no stimulation—just isolated in a cold room with the door shut. What makes this most concerning is that none of this was due to lack of communication. The staff was told repeatedly and acknowledged understanding her care plan. They simply did not follow it. This was not a matter of preference. This was neglect. I removed my mother from this facility early and will never use Prairie Estates again for future respite care. If your loved one is vulnerable, bedridden, or requires detailed care, I strongly advise looking elsewhere.
