They are great at caring for you but once you've hit your rehabilitation limit they more or less kick you out door. They do not provide any services for you to get home. The food leaves something to be desired. I'd rate it down right? Horrible. Most of it. I wouldn't eat watching my mom's food come in. The staff is great but when I went up and asked if they provided any resources to help get your loved ones home, I was flat out told we don't provide that in a very rude manner that was what I was told by one of the administrators. It doesn't make me very happy. Other than that I'd say it's an okay facility to come in in and get your rehabilitation. The staff seems great.
I deliberately waited until after my grandmother passed to write this because I did not want any concern about retaliation to affect her care. Now that she is gone, I feel an obligation to be honest about what we experienced because no one else should have to endure it.
It is important to note that my grandmother originally entered this facility on the rehab side, and that experience was entirely different. During that time, she was well taken care of, listened to, and treated with the level of attention and dignity you would expect. Unfortunately, that standard of care did not carry over once she transitioned out of rehab.
My grandmother was a Type 1 diabetic, and the facility repeatedly failed to meet even the most basic dietary needs required for her condition. Meals were often overwhelmingly carb and starch heavy, with little regard for how dangerous that can be. To make matters worse, she only ate fish or chicken, and the options provided were almost always fried. Fried fish, fried chicken, or something else deep fried were consistently the only choices. These were terrible, unhealthy selections that showed no consideration for her medical needs or personal limitations.
Staffing was clearly and consistently inadequate. There were far too few caregivers for the number of residents, and the consequences were heartbreaking. My grandmother, along with others, was left waiting for hours to be taken to the restroom or changed. No human being should have to sit in their own waste for extended periods of time. It is degrading, inhumane, and entirely unacceptable.
The facility itself reflects the same level of neglect. It is dirty, poorly maintained, and deeply depressing. As you move toward the back of the facility, particularly near the long term care section, the overwhelming smell of urine hits you immediately. This is supposed to be a place where vulnerable people are cared for with dignity and compassion. Instead, it felt like a place where they were forgotten.
We begged my grandmother to allow us to transfer her to another facility, but she was simply too tired to go through the stress of moving. That makes what she endured here even harder to accept.
It is hard not to conclude that this facility is being run with priorities that have nothing to do with patient care. You can tell this facility is run by Saber, an organization that appears more interested in making a profit than actually providing the services they claim to be in business to do.
If I could give this place zero stars, I would.
I would not wish this experience on anyone. People in these facilities deserve respect, attentiveness, and basic human dignity, none of which were consistently provided here. If you care about your loved one at all, do not place them in this facility. Even if you do not, still look elsewhere. No one deserves to be treated this way.
I have continuously talked to the staff including Ms. Alice concerning care at this facility. I had to start doing my mom’s laundry a couple of years ago because things would go missing, bleach all over the clothes, and stains left behind. I was asked if I wanted them to do her soiled pads and I said no. When I picked up her laundry yesterday the picture said it all when I went to do her laundry. They have more agency working than staff. Turn over is ridiculous. Some of the ones that are on staff their have really been good to my loved one, but some of the agency, they are just there and that is it. For instance this past Sunday, no CNA was scheduled, they ended up calling in an agency and a new hire. The agency person was working her butt off and also training the new hire for the company. Also, this past Sunday, one CNA to care for 20 patients. Quite a few of these patients are hand fed and have to be lifted by a hoyer lift which is required 2 staff members. The agency CNA's dont know the patients and a lot of them don’t read up on them which in turn can put a patient in danger. Everytime someone in charge gets something corrected they end up quitting. Promises keep getting made and never kept. I am sure this is not the only nursing home that is like this, but as of now this is my loved one’s home and I expect her to be taking care of. Other than that it is a clean place and does not have the smell that other homes have.
The CNA‘s are extremely lazy. They only do what they want to do. My mother is on Lasix and if she needs to be changed, sometimes she has to wait three or four hours before they will change her out and even if they just changed her out and she needs to be changed out again they will say it has not been long enough. There is no law saying that is not been long enough. The law is is she asked to be changed? They have to change her which is they are not. I have had countless meetings for the past year and a half with these death eared people that run this facility even the administrator Alice cannot run this place properly. All they do with these care, plans meetings is check off the box for the state and waste time in the meetings instead of paying more attention to the patients and their staff supposed to be doing. if you call up there because the CNA’s are not doing their jobs, they get to noticing this amongst whoever’s answering the phones and will not answer the phones and will just let them ring. After the office staff has left for the day there is no one in the building that is supervising anyone there is not even a Operator to speak with there has not even been a beautician in over two months that I have paid for services and have not received a haircut for my mother. They have a very Extremely high turnover rate I have talked Alice the administrator, omsbudman , the state , health department and even our state senator and yet nobody will address the issues. I do hope each and everyone of the staff live a long and prosperous life and when it’s their time and their family enters them into a nursing home I want you to keep my phone number and call me and talk to me and tell me how you are now getting treated because I’m gonna tell you I don’t feel sorry for you Cause you would not listen to me
I cannot express how disappointed I was with the care that my good friend received from this facility. They are constantly understaffed to the point where even the Registered Nurses and CNA's complain! To the point where they have to have agency nurses and cna's to come in and fill in.
When people ring their bell for assistance, sometimes they would turn them off, say they will be right back and never actually do that. I wonder how their family members would feel if that happened to them.
I implore anyone who are considering sending their loved ones here to please do your due diligence, visit the place and talk directly to the families to hear what they think about the level of care their loved ones receive. But, please ask yourself this:
If the people who work there are so overwhelmed, do you really believe that your loved ones will feel safe and taken care of? They won't; I witnessed it first hand and was shocked and extremely troubled at what I saw there.
Please understand something else: There were a few nurses and cna's that were very caring; there just weren't enough of them, which shouldn't reflect on their service because they were getting burned out from not having the support they need, too.
