Calvary Homes Retirement Community

is a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community founded on the Christian principles of compassion and understanding. We believe compassion and understanding are not luxuries, but the essentials of gracious living.

Founded in 1963, Calvary Homes is now one of the oldest Christian retirement communities in Lancaster, PA. We are home to more than 370 residents who are embraced by the Christian tenants of faith and fellowship. In this home-like atmosphere, our retirement community residents find companionship set in a mood of quiet, dignified living while they enjoy reasonably-priced retirement homes and the security of lifelong healthcare.

History

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania granted a charter to the Calvary Homes Retirement Community corporation on November 10, 1962. We held a groundbreaking for the first accommodations on June 24, 1962, and the home opened its doors in May of 1963 with 14 residents. The corporation established Calvary Homes as a non-profit, charitable retirement community in 1963.

We minister not only to the physical and emotional needs but also to the spiritual needs of our residents. Our residents enjoy a close-knit, active adult community complete with housing at a reasonable cost, supplemented by the security of lifelong healthcare.

Our staff considers their daily tasks not merely as employment but as an opportunity to minister to the residents. Calvary has earned respect and confidence from its residents, families, and community.

Independent Living

Located in the convenient suburban surroundings of Lancaster, PA, Calvary Homes' campus offers easy access to shopping, restaurants, cultural and community events, and world-class medical facilities and skilled nursing. We've designed our spacious cottages for optimum comfort and independent senior living while providing a wide variety of amenities for an active and carefree retirement lifestyle.

Many of our apartments are connected under one roof to our main common areas, services, and amenities for your convenience. The Rohrer Apartments are positioned separately on campus for those preferring more independent living facilities, but all our cottages and apartments on our 38-acre retirement community campus in beautiful Lancaster County.

Personal Care / Assisted Living

It is easy to feel like we’ve lost a sense of purpose as we age, but caring for our bodies, minds, and spiritual selves can bring purpose back and make these years joyful and carefree. At Calvary Homes, we understand the importance of assisted-living type care for independent older adults through their retirement years.

For our residents who need additional supervision or help with the tasks of daily living, we offer personal care (commonly referred to as assisted living) in Lancaster, PA, in small and relaxed household settings. This environment puts residents at ease and encourages them to engage in the various activities of daily living available to them and the other residents.

Our lounges and exterior recreation areas provide abundant options for residents to entertain, play games, participate in group exercise, or go on outdoor excursions. Three delicious meals are served each day at our beautiful Grandview Café, an appealing and social space for residents and visitors to enjoy dining with choice and flexible mealtimes.

Renovations soon underway will add full baths to most resident rooms, a new whirlpool spa, and create a new care neighborhood with enlarged social and recreational spaces adjacent to a lovely new outdoor garden, dining deck, and fountain area.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of musical programs, morning devotions, Saturday evening entertainment, Sunday worship and vespers, fellowship get-togethers, exercise programs, and other special events planned for the enjoyment of residents and their visitors or family members.

Our Skilled Nursing Facility Provides Quality Care

Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitative Care

As the needs of older adults change, Calvary Homes offers additional support and services in our familiar Christian tradition, while helping each individual remain as independent as possible. Our skilled nursing facility is fully licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Human Services, is Medicaid/Medicare approved and carries a long-standing reputation for quality care. New renovations now underway will provide private rooms with full baths for 87% of our accommodations within two smaller, more residential neighborhoods. Each neighborhood includes a living/activity room, country kitchen, and dining area, whirlpool spa, and covered porch with a secure outdoor garden.
