About Brookdale Charleston Gardens

Brookdale Charleston Gardens is a senior living community in Charleston, West Virginia, offering Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, and Memory Care services.

Family experiences at the facility divide noticeably. Positive reviewers consistently praise the friendliness and dedication of staff, the cleanliness of common areas, and the range of daily activities available to residents. One family wrote that the staff "make an effort to get to know" their loved one. Several families appreciated the variety of programming, particularly during periods of isolation. However, a smaller group of families reported serious concerns: inadequate monitoring of residents, medications not administered as prescribed, unclear staff accountability (with some noting the lack of name tags in the dementia unit), and disorganization in care supplies. One family described the dementia unit shower area as "absolutely a mess" with residents' belongings mixed together.

For families considering Brookdale Charleston Gardens, the reviews suggest examining staffing practices and medication protocols carefully during a tour, and asking specific questions about oversight in specialized units like Memory Care.

It was a difficult decision to move my mother into assisted living but the staff gives my mother better care than I could provide and she is definitely safer than living on her own. She is also exposed to more people on a daily basis which socially is important for her mental health.

The family just checked my mother and father in law in to this facility. The staff is amazing. The facility is clean. It is such a relief to know our family is in good hands.

My sister was in Brookdale dementia unit. The care was not good. It was not clean. You didn’t know who was caring for your loved one. The staff didn’t have name tags so you’re always asking for their name. They were to get shower twice a week. The cabinet that holds what you need for your shower was absolutely a mess. If you could even find you container it would possibly have other patients stuff in it. You were asked to put names on everything. Keeping each patient’s personal shower container shouldn’t be a problem. Dementia patients love baby dolls . My sister was given several baby dolls. Someone on staff decided they were evil and tossed them in the trash. We didn’t complain to management because they would just have come down on the unit. She was in this unit for 15 months. Management never came to see staff or even to check on the patients. The night staff was 7-7 most unprofessional. Know name tag. In street clothes and you didn’t know anything about their ability to care for dementia patients. They were to keep records on all patients. When you would ask how the night went know one could tell you anything because of the lack of communication and know paperwork is being completed. They even had men on the evening staff and know women. You shouldn’t ever have only men with a unit of both men and women. Brookdale in Charleston Wva has problems. I would not recommend putting your loved in their care. Dementia is hard enough to manage. You have to Trust your caregivers and I definitely wouldn’t recommend Brookdale.

Brookdale Charleston Gardens is very homey and the staff is super friendly. I feel like they care about my loved one and make an effort to get to know her. She feels very safe. Nursing and management are very dedicated and responsive. I would recommend and have recommended CG to others.
