1 / 5Reviews for Golden Rule Care Center are sharply mixed: families praise the physical and occupational therapy and activities staff, but multiple serious complaints describe understaffing, missed medications, delayed wound care, and lapses in memory care supervision. This is a skilled nursing/long-term care facility rather than a typical assisted living community, and the negative reviews raise real concerns about staffing levels and care consistency.

Unfortunately, my 50 year old husband had a serious lung infection that required serious surgery and a month long stay in ICU. He ended up at this facility. The OT/PT and Activities departments were above my standards, but that is not the case for the “medical” aspect of it. They were completely understaffed and his care was not up to my standards. He arrived on a Tuesday evening and was unable to receive his medication (antibiotics, pain, and anxiety) until Wednesday afternoon due to “the big shots” already being gone is what we were told. After a few days of no one mentioning him receiving a shower I questioned why on the Thursday. I was told that it was charted that he declined one. I told them that was false information. The staff stated that it was probably entered in there because they know “that you are always here and probably doing it”!!!! I said that I want it updated and that I wanted him showered. I was then told that he was scheduled for them on Wednesday and Saturday. I stated that I would do it myself if someone would guide me!!!! That didn’t happen because “we are understaffed and we have new nurses who are temporary nurses because of it”, so no one knows what is going on. On Saturday, I questioned it again!!! He left on the following Monday, without ever receiving a shower. He also had a 7 inch surgical wound with staples and it was looked at once by a medical staff in the whole 6 days!!!! I had requested it multiple times and shared my fear of not being educated on how to appropriately handle it. My husband repeatedly stated his fear of it becoming infected!!! When I realized that no one was going to clean it, I began asking for cleaner to do it myself. I was never educated on how to do it, how often to do it, and if medicine needed to be applied to it. Each evening I had to ask for the cleaner and was told to “bring it back when you’re done”. More times than not, the nurses would get irritated when my husband or I would ask to have the pills identified and explain what they were for. I would have to use a pill identifying site to find out myself because we were often told that they didn’t know but that’s what is in his charts! He had to deny multiple pills, multiple times because he no longer needed them such as a stool softener and an antibiotic that was making him sick! Most of the time, he was not watched taking the medication and even had them just left on a tray in a little cup!!!! Again, we had wonderful experiences with the PT/OT and Activities Departments!
