I have seen overmedication, loss of personal movement and other freedoms, and restrictions on the ability to interact with others " AT OTHER NURSING HOMES"!! My sister has been a private paying resident in different facilities for years. The last placement she had (Somewhere else in Worcester) ended during Covid when the owners of the Dementia Facility thought that she was running out of money and called an emergency meeting to ask us to find an alternate placement for her immediately. I was Shocked!! For years on the Radio the facility represented lifetime placement, and they also guaranteed placement for life in our contract. So, with the lifetime placement in our contract and the money to continue private pay I was forced to move her. I don’t generally like to write reviews but in the 7 years since my sister was diagnosed with dementia she has been in and out of many different facilities and I have learned a few things about placement and suffered many disappointments and difficulties. My experience with Blaire House has been positive and has given me a personal sense of relief and security for the care of my sister. When you have a loved one in a nursing home, if you are anything like me, it is never going to be good enough, never going to be perfect. I try to remember I am not putting my sister in a five-star hotel, instead I am finding a new home for someone who has dementia and all the difficulties of that disease. Although Blaire house can look well worn, they are currently working on building a new facility. Sadly, covid slowed down the construction of this desperately needed nursing home. The good news is they are working on it! Blaire House is one of the very few homes that are equipped to take care of dementia diagnosed people in the Worcester Area. They are not offering what I saw as the typical dark basement dementia unit at other nursing homes. Blaire house is light and alive with movement. I have seen the staff address the specific needs of my sister with compassion and kindness from personal hygiene to assistance with eating. They have recognized that she enjoys music, so they include her in different musical related programs and one of her aides has taken to singing to her. Whenever we go in to visit it is clear that the staff know her, and she seems to recognize them. One of the sweet women who works in the kitchen makes a point of dropping by to say hello to her all the time. When you start looking for placement for a loved one who is on an anti-psychotic meds you need to communicate it to the nursing home because many nursing homes cannot dispense that type of medication! Blaire House can. My sister seems to be content at Blaire house and I am relieved to have found the right place for her. We are now moving toward another challenge with applying for Mass Health and the people at Blaire house are very helpful in dealing with the unwieldy process.

No one wants to see their loved ones living anywhere but home. No one wants to see them get so lost that they have to be contained…no one. Seeing my mom at the blaire house was alarming. No it is not bricks and sticks. It’s older and not updated and when I first walked in my heart was in my throat…BUT I saw my mother who had been to so many facilities as we struggled to get her stabilized, be treated like a human again at the Blaire house . Unfortunately for our circumstances she really went there to die. Which was hard and sad. I can not say enough about the team at Blaire house. They cried with me and then helped me pick myself back up and take care of my mom. They were kind, gentle, confident and incredibly patient. I was there often to be with my mother in her final days and I watched the way they worked and interacted with the residents. It brought tears to my eyes to see the way they interacted with compassion and humility. This is not a fancy place. If I had all the money I would go in and revamp everything BUT what I learned is that people who need to be there don’t need the bells and whistles. They need safety, human interaction, compassion and frankly…love. Don’t judge a book by its cover . Take it from a daughter who stood by her mothers side as we navigated the worst disease I could have ever imagined. My mom was an educated and vibrant woman who in her end was reduced to a paranoid, scared and angry toddler. She needed help and while we got there too later in her journey the Blaire house met us where we were. When everyone else gave up on her. She was too “difficult” the Blaire house showed us that there can be a different approach. Godbless and good luck with your search…sure isn’t easy-but it’s our duty to do the best for our loved ones.

This is the worst facility I have ever stepped foot in. I have been to multiple nursing homes/ facilities and have not been disappointed. This place should get shut down. I can give you a couple examples of how this facility is ran so poorly. I have seen residents who normally use walkers/ wheelchairs roaming the hallways without them. I saw an elderly women change her own diaper. It is rat infested and looks like the place is never properly cleaned. This place is always short staffed and never pay attention to the residents. I suggest you look into this facility or tour it before allowing your loved one to go there.

I have had to painfully watch my normally cheerful grandfather fall into a depressed state in only a months time. They are short staffed on the weekdays and only a handful of staff on the weekends. Residents are left unattended for long periods of time. Most of the staff are pretty nice but there are a few that are out right rude. The facility is owned by the Romano family. They seem to have no concern for the place. Everything is outdated. The TVs are terrible. The rooms a depressing. The phones are staticky and very hard to hear anyone. Please stay clear. I wish the Romano family would take interest. I don’t think they would send someone they care about there.

Sharing from a daughter who’s Mother is a resident. We are all on a first name bases and I adore each and everyone of the staff members. From the front desk, to the nurses station, to the activity girls, the kitchen staff and all the other amazing staff I am thankful for this facility and the job they do. It’s extremely hard not being able to care for my mom around the clock but I know this staff tries their best to, and I find so much comfort in it. The Covid precautions they have taken is extremely sanitary and eases the visitations. Thank you to everyone here, you are appreciated!
