I am writing to belatedly—but very emphatically—rave about the incredible caregivers you have provided for our Mom for more than a year and a half now. Each of them is dedicated, fun, and, most importantly, genuinely caring. They have become such an important part of Mom’s life and our family’s peace of mind.

First, there is Ruth Hiagbe, who is with Mom Monday through Thursday and is truly amazing! She is fun, and Mom naturally seems to enjoy being with her. Ruth is always laughing, communicates so well, and sends us pictures of Mom every day. She is simply a natural at what she does.

I frequently help with “shower hour” with Mom and Ruth on Wednesdays, and there is no getting in Ruth’s way! She has a meticulous routine and knows exactly what she is doing. She cares for Mom so gently—from the shower to carefully lathering her with lotions afterward. She goes above and beyond in every way. We would truly be lost without Ruth.

Most recently, we added Margaret Kibuuka as Mom’s go-to gal on Fridays. Margaret likes to get her steps in, so she is naturally a perfect fit for our hall-walking Mom! She never lets Mom out of her sight, and I am truly grateful that we made the change and found such a wonderful fit.

Last, but definitely not least, is Mireille Ngbakoua, a.k.a. Mimi, who is with Mom on the weekends. Mimi is simply too much fun! The whole family knows and loves her, as weekends are when Mom tends to have the most visitors. Mimi treats Mom as if she were her own mother, and there really are no words to express how much that means to us.

She makes sure Mom is always “runway ready,” complete with color-coordinated necklaces (Mardi Gras beads) for every outfit. Mom would absolutely love this if she only knew! Mimi goes above and beyond for Mom, and Mom has truly connected with her, as has our entire family.

There is a lot to be said for being able to trust Mom’s caregivers day in and day out. The peace of mind these women provide my siblings and me is priceless. Every time I visit, I leave saying, “Thank you. I love you. I don't know how you do it!”

We are incredibly grateful for Ruth, Margaret, and Mimi, and for the care, joy, and love they bring to Mom every single day. They are truly special.

LESR
on behalf of K. Smith
Kindley @ Asbury Methodist Village
