They are not very flexable--they have their favorites--my mother was not treated very well-- because she wanted to stay in her room and have her meals. she didn't mix well with the other residents, but didn't cause any problems. they still wanted her to leave. she was very sad - the room was very large and comfortable. no view but my mom liked to look out on the street and traffic. I feel if she could have stayed there, as it was close to me and I came everyday, she would not have suffered dehydration and end up in the hospital with kidney problems--as we couldn't get to her during the brutal snowstorm, and the other facility just gave her pills and didn't really attend to her, encourage her to eat or drink. { that's another conversation-about what level of care to expect from an assisted living facility} Subsequently the hospital thought it was time to let her go. I believe she would not have ended her life in this way if I could have gotten to her. I could have walked to Allerton House. It would be o.k. for your loved one if the staff take a liking to them.

You Can Ask for Anything, Anytime at Allerton House Assisted Living in Quincy, MA – Now that’s Peace of Mind! Angelo (Red) and Geraldine (Gerrie) DiGravio are quick to say that living at Allerton House at Hancock Park in Quincy, they “don’t have to worry about a thing.” The couple was encouraged by their three children, who live in Norwell, Hull and Rhode Island, to make the move to Allerton House when they began to require assistance due to health issues. Red says, “Anything we need, we just press a button and someone is right here to see what we need and do whatever they can for us.” Red and Gerrie first met when he was in fifth grade and she was in fourth. Their paths crossed over the years—at school, at church and at Sunday school. Now married for 65 years, Red jokes, “Her parents were none too thrilled with me. His dad worked with mine at the Quincy Shipyard and used to tell him to keep me away from his daughter.” Red pursued a Navy career during World War II, but decided that military life was too difficult for a young family. He joined the Quincy Fire Department, working with the alarm systems for all eight stations until his retirement 20 years later. The DiGravios take great pride and joy in their three children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Red says, “We have plenty of room to entertain and a kitchen to make snacks. It makes it nice.” He also is impressed with the wonderful, accommodating staff, citing an example of a time when he needed medical attention and the Allerton House nurse drove him to the hospital herself. “She’s always ‘Johnny-on-the-spot,” he says. As another example, he notes, “We can go down for meals, but if we’re not feeling well, they’ll bring them up for us. You can ask for anything, anytime here at Allerton House.”
