My father was in Woodbine for a little over three weeks. During that time the speech therapist was the highlight of his stay. However, his night assigned nurse was horrible. Mom and I arrived at 10 am for our daily visit and to my utter horror my dad was soaked, his bed was soaked, the floor puddled on one side nearest the window. All of his urine. I asked him could I check his catheter, he nodded yes. It was still in tact. How could this be.? When I asked the charge nurse Michael who was on my Dad, he said Lucy. Lucy asked, "what's the problem Mama?" I asked when was the last time she'd been in with my dad. She stated 30 minutes ago. I turned to Michael and asked, then why is he, his bed, and the floor soaked. I showed him the sides of my wet suede shoes. Yes they were blue. They checked my dad and his catheter was still in place. My mom was already in the room gathering dad's stuff and calling Alexandria INOVA to come retrieve my Dad. Dad had a trachea, so special transport was requested. We didn't allow him to go there again. Sadly he passed the months after.
