My father used to volunteer here, playing cards and games with residents in retirement. When he was diagnosed with dementia a few years ago, we took advantage of their adult day care a few times as dad was comfortable and familiar with many of the staff already. When we just couldn't keep up with his care at home, he was admitted as a full-time resident in mid November and the folks at Thornton Terrace were just amazing from start to unfortunately the finish in mid February. Early on, dad actually did better than he did at home with 24/7 care. He was eating well, chatting up the aids/nurses, and had a steady stream of visitors. As the dementia took its course and he contracted Covid (from a visitor) and partial pneumonia, he declined fairly rapidly - but his care did not suffer. I can't say enough about the staff, aides, nurses, and kitchen team at Thornton Terrace - they were very accommodating to my mom (who was there nearly 24/7), made dad feel comfortable and cared for, and gave us kids a lot of comfort knowing that he was in a good place. I had a blink camera in his room recording any movement, and reviewed activity daily, and the staff there never missed a beat. A big thank you from our family to everyone at Thornton Terrace - you allowed us to focus on our last days with our dad instead of worrying about his level of care. There was a little whisper in late 2025 about some of the staff leaving TT to go to work for a "competitor in town" - they were lured by a few extra bucks a week. It caused some of the remaining staff to have to work extra hours to cover for the gaps, but in our minds we were left with the people who are there for the right reasons - to help others in their time of need. It didn't go unnoticed, and we certainly appreciated your love and compassion to our dad!
