My mother lived at the Episcopal Church Home 16 years, and our family was always pleased with the care she received from ECH. The staff was friendly and went the extra mile to help my mother. The nurses and doctors were thorough and on top of any medical issue. I feel fortunate that we found a home for her at ECH.

I have been living in my apartment here for nearly three years, and my experience has been very positive. One of the things I appreciate most is that this is a not-for-profit community. There is a genuine sense that decisions are made with the residents’ well-being in mind. I’m able to maintain my own routine while also having support available when I need it. The staff has been consistently kind, patient, and respectful, and they have taken the time to get to know me as an individual. Moving here was a big transition, but the team helped make it much smoother. I really value having my own space, while also feeling safe and part of a larger community. There are opportunities to be social, but no pressure—it truly feels like living in an apartment with added support. Like any place, there are occasional challenges, but when concerns come up, they are addressed in a timely and thoughtful way. Communication has been good, and I feel comfortable reaching out when needed. I’m grateful for the care and attention I receive, and I would recommend Lyndon House at Episcopal Church Home to anyone looking for a supportive, respectful living environment.

I am a current resident of the Episcopal Church Home’s “Independent Living” which consists of three distinct neighborhoods of patio homes. My wife and I have been here going on 3 years this summer (2026) and I thought this is a good time to give some feedback on how we have settled into our new life. About 6 years ago, we started thinking that perhaps it might be wise to consider living in something other than our home which we had lived in for over 30 years. We were still quite active but knew that would not always be the case as we aged and the thought of keeping up our own home might become a burden rather than a blessing. Plus, any unforeseen medical development could also pose a challenge to our current lifestyle. Since we have no children, we really had only the two of us to watch out for each other. After some diligent research by my wife, we picked several places in Louisville to check out. Ultimately, that list came down to just one; ECH. And it was a clear choice. Now that we live here, we can’t imagine enjoying our retirement years better anywhere else. And that includes our former home. I initially just wanted a place where I would not have to deal with home maintenance and could be confident that our house would be looked after while we were on travel, but we found so much more at ECH. Lots of organized activities that I can choose to participate in or not. There are exercise classes in the clubhouse. Organized board games that many people attend. Book club discussions. And frequent Bridge card games. I can always tell the Bridge parties when I see a lot of rollators lined up and parked on a neighbor’s porch. We also have the ECH bus going on regular trips to concerts, museums and other interesting places. And a lot of times lunch is involved as I found we can’t take the bus out without having lunch! I’ve found my neighbors are a friendly and engaging bunch. It is not uncommon to take what would be a normal 20 minute walk and turn it into an hour walk as I’ve become engaged in various conversations along the way. When I first moved to ECH I was only looking for a place to “grow old” in but I’ve found so much more. I’ve found my Home for Life! M. Abell

Living Life to the Fullest My wife and I are approaching four years as residents in the Dudley Square patio homes (Independent Living) at the Episcopal Church Home, ECH. I have never lived in a community as wonderful and supportive as ECH is. Residents here take genuine interest in their neighbors, help each other when asked, socialize frequently and enjoy activities that interest each other. ECH truly is a caring community and a fun place to live. We exercise here, we take long walks around the campus and neighboring parks, we have social hour and dinner together each week, we take classes on everything from religion to politics. Some work together to improve the community by customizing the landscape, planting trees and flowers to enhance our own sense of beauty. Others find interest in playing games together, bridge, mahjong, and scrabble for example. Others enjoy the ever-present jigsaw puzzle in the library. Many from ECH share their time and talents helping others in the area by volunteering in community non-profits and ministries. And those so moved worship together in St. Luke's Chapel on the campus or in churches in the surrounding community This is a place for seniors to live life to the fullest.

Moving to the Episcopal Church Home's Dudley Square patio home community within the last three years has been and continues to be a positive experience in Senior Independent Living for me. Making new friends, while maintaining years of previous friendships, has been delightful due to the diversity of residents. In addition, the staff continues to be responsive to residents' concerns and needs, as well as providing interesting social and educational activities. It is also a great comfort knowing that, if my health needs should change, the progression to full assisted living is available within the community campus. I am happy with my decision to move to the ECH.
