After carefully researching many options in the Seattle area, my parents chose to make Skyline's First Hill senior living community their final home in 2011, when they were both 75. They were the first residents of a spacious Independent Living apartment and were immensely satisfied spending in that space the last dozen of their 68 year marriage. They quickly made a ton of close friends. My mother, 2-1/2 years widowed and now 89, has recently chosen to transition into an Assisted Living apartment. I live in Seattle, too, and speak from over 14 years up close and personal experience of the Skyline community.<br><br>The statement of values on Skyline's website are the real deal. It truly is a vibrant, strong community of friendship and respect, due to the commitment of residents and staff alike to make and keep it so.<br><br>I particularly appreciate that there's no "clique-ishness" I've ever seen, and as Skyline has grown -- adding a whole new, big residential tower since my parents moved into the first one -- everyone who lives and works there nurtures that inclusive attitude.<br><br>The apartments, grounds and common areas are lovely and always well-kept. The programming for residents is diverse, intellectually and physically interesting, and resident-driven with staff support. The food is fresh and very well-prepared -- restaurant quality -- with choice of dining areas and menus to eat in or take out.<br><br>I cannot praise more highly the dedicated staff support my mom has received in her transition to Assisted Living. It's an inherently difficult decision, to start with, followed by a major downsizing move; plus adjustment to new, reduced space, a different -- but no less top quality -- system for meals, and a lengthy, legally mandated evaluative process to establish an individualized care plan. It's a lot.<br><br>Skyline staff in all areas -- admin, nursing, maintenance, dining, housekeeping, valet -- ALL -- have been awesome, IMO, in their relentlessly patient and friendly helpfulness. Each of them does a big, complex job, and in I sincerely believe they are always seeking to do their best to meet the needs of a whole lot of people, as well and expeditiously as they can.

I've lived at Skyline for about a year and a half. The experience has been excellent in many respects. I'm a widower and I live alone in a one-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and a big living-dining room area. I have an office in my bedroom. On a sunny day I can see the top of Mt. Rainier in addition to the stadiums, part of the harbor and a general territorial view.<br>The location is excellent for me. I can walk to most of my doctors, there is valet parking for visitors, bus service is good to north and south as well as to downtown, and with a day's notice Skyline staff will drive me to appointments, stores, museums, etc. in big, comfortable sedans. (Much more comfortable than Uber/Lyft.)<br>The food is excellent with good variety and a wide range of choices. When I was younger I used to enjoy cooking, but I don't now so this is important.<br>If something needs to be fixed, even a light bulb changed, I call the concierge and someone comes to take care of it very soon.<br>Security is excellent. Last January I had a medical emergency. I pressed the emergency button they provide and that I wear around my neck and someone came within minutes and called an ambulance.<br>Staff are outstanding. They get to know us and what our preferences are, so interactions with them are like talking to friends.<br>I haven't needed to go to The Terraces yet, where they have assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing, but it's very reassuring to know they are nearby and available.<br>My move to Skyline was my last move and it was, without question, the right one.

Don't call them for anything, no matter how easy, they simply transfer you around to various voice mail boxes, some that are full. I guess you must go there, in person, to get something accomplished.
