Over the last couple of months at Natick South LCB, one has seen many staff members leave . There may be one or two servers working in a full dining room, Residents aren’t able to get orders in or get the food in a timely manner, the food quality has gone down, Often out of many food items . The other night at dinner, it was absolute chaos, There were many promises made a few months ago about all the improvements That we were going to be made , and honestly, have not seen anything yet. My father doesn’t have many things to look forward to, he’s always look forward to going down and having a good meal, it is so sad to see you can’t even get this at this point his life . I'm told the rent will be increasing in January, While we have to start paying for laundry services, paper towel, and toilet paper, Along with poor Service in the dining room, it’s really sad to see my parents having to deal with us. They do have the best concierge staff, that is the one highlight

We moved my mother into one of the LCB facilities and were made lots of promises. They did not deliver on any of them. 1. The food is abysmal. My mother says she wouldn’t feed the provided meals to a pet. The food it is tough, processed, and usually frozen. Having eaten the food on occasion, I can vouch that coach airline food would be a step up. 2. They changed to a commercial portal that does not accept payments from brokerage houses where most elderly have their trust money. The only options are to pay by bank card where they charge an outrageous fee. 3. My mother is cold all the time. They don’t have a very effective climate control system. 4. They don’t have a very well thought out access security system. If we take her out for dinner and the desk worker is away from the desk, there is no means of entry. When my mother does come for a visit, she spends most of the time anxious about getting back into the building. This is because she was once locked out. 5. In an area with some of the best hospitals in the world, the chosen health provider is not associated with any of them. My mother’s providers (doctors) insisted that we find a PCP associated with the hospital to manage her care. 6. They haven’t been able to offer consistent transportation to medical appointments. I end up driving her to the doctor. There are more issues, but I think this communicates the state of their services.

It has been one year since my mother passed away shortly after being removed from the Residence at Brookside in Avon. After proof of abuse, due to cuts, bruises, skin tears, unattended falls, medication errors and general mistreatment requiring hospitalizations, I reported the treatment to LCB Corporate, who in turn told me that my mother (who was on Hospice) had to leave the facility. She had been at the facility for less that 7 months and her health declined steadily after a traumatic fall four months in where she was lying on the floor for 3.5 hours in the morning before a home health agency person (not an employee) found her. I had approached the nursing Director several times during the preceding months asking if my mother should be moved to a nursing facility and assured many times, that they could accommodate her. It is about the bottom line and quotas- not resident care. It was only after the nursing director blind-sided me via email (despite the fact that I was there daily) with an increase of $2500/month after an increase of the same a month before that I called Corporate. The cost went from $6400,00 to $10,000 in a matter of three months and the care was horrific. The Director had assured me that once she went on Hospice- the cost would not increase. Simultaneously, the Hospice aide who was assigned to my mother confided in me that the care in the facility was deplorable and the aides were unkind. Some examples: they had forgotten to feed my mother once she went on Hospice. The LPN on duty could not stop a cut from bleeding while I was there visiting. Skin tears so deep from an aide pulling on her that my mother was hysterical when she saw it. Passing out in a hot shower when the aide literally threw her in the shower upon waking. The police were called in when my mom had a very lucid moment and told my sister and I unsolicited that "it is very expensive to live here and be batted around". I filmed it and sent it to Corporate who reported it to the local police. The Director and Nursing Director met with the policewoman before hand and portrayed me as a crazy daughter. They (all three) then went upstairs and interviewed my mother without me present (POA/Healthcare rep) and intimidated my dying mother and turned her words around. Case closed. I am taking that up with the police department. These are the same woman who befriended me until I questioned the care and escalated. I moved my mother into my home for ten days prior to her death on Hospice. She was so traumatized by what occurred at The Residence at Brookside, that she experienced terminal agitation and had to be hospitalized until she passed away three days later. Not the peaceful death that a loving mother of four and grandmother of six should have had. I deeply regret placing my mother at the Residence at Brookside. I have worked in healthcare for over 25 years, and this was the most egregious care that I have witnessed. This is a facility that is costly and for profit. I struggled with the for-profit before deciding on this facility and I regret it each day. If your loved one has any chronic health issues or is unable to be somewhat independent, beware. It is smoke and mirrors.

My father has been a resident of Traditions of Dedham for the past five years. The transition to assisted living can be a difficult path, for both the resident and the entire family, especially when the move is sudden and unexpected. Fortunately for us, a caregiver recommended we do a short respite stay at Traditions to see how my father would do there. It has been an excellent match. If you are exploring this option for your loved ones, schedule a visit. You'll witness firsthand the kind, warm, professional yet engaged atmosphere that will help your loved one thrive...and give your family peace of mind.

My mother, Rita McKenna, moved in to Selleck Woods in Darien, CT over the summer. The facility is new and gorgeous. Barbara Davis and her staff were first class in helping us through the process. It was our first time and she was wonderful, educational, and patient throughout the process. My mother is well taken care of, very active with all the programs, and adjusting very well to life at Selleck Woods. Being a new facility, it is filling up nicely with all new people to the community. We visit often and everyone is very hospitable. We highly recommend Selleck Woods. Mary Stockdale
