Lakeside Special Care Center

Lakeside Special Care Center is a psychiatric care facility in Lakeside, California, providing long-term care to patients 18 years of age and older with severe and persistent psychiatric impairment. The facility offers 24-hour care and is designed for individuals whose adaptive functioning is moderately to severely impaired and who cannot be admitted to standard skilled nursing facilities due to chronic mental illness.

The center comprises three individually fenced cottages set on park-like grounds, giving residents freedom to access the surrounding outdoor areas. The facility employs its own therapists who work alongside the nursing staff to help residents achieve their highest level of functional independence.

Lakeside's treatment approach emphasizes recovery, wellness, and discovery through collaboration with residents. The program aims to counteract stigma, improve self-esteem, encourage self-management and personal choice, and support reintegration into the community as contributing members. The facility is dedicated to improving or preventing deterioration of residents' current level of functioning, with the ultimate goal of helping them achieve a satisfying and fulfilling life.

The center currently operates 58 beds and is undergoing renovations and expansion with a new building planned for its grounds, intended to grow the program and expand services to the community.
