I'll preface this review by noting we give Canterbury's care providers and reception staff 10 Stars.

My mother-in-law resided at Canterbury for a little over a year. While she was there, she thoroughly enjoyed the other residence and the care providers. She was happy and content. Canterbury is a lovely facility and they offer many daily activities for the residents, which allows them to engage with each other on a regular basis.

The negatives;

The food in the dining room is heavy on carbohydrates and starches. We dined with mom several times and found the food passable but not enjoyable.

Canterbury is ridiculously short staffed! Mom would call us in the wee hours of the morning requesting assistance to the restroom or other personal needs.

We were nickeled and dimed for items we didn't need or request. Every service or item is changed as a line item on your monthly statement. We purchased personal care items yet would find their items in mom's room.

Amended timeline -
January 29, 2025 - 1st Covid outbreak

February 14, 2025 - Norovirus quarantine

September 28th, 2025 - Our mom tests positive for covid
Quarantined September 28 - October 14, 2025

September 29 - falls while being assisted in the bathroom. Does not require hospitalization

October 10 - falls while being assisted in the bathroom. Transported to Peace Health via ambulance. Diagnosed with an acute non-displaced fracture of L-2

October 14 - *3rd fall in restroom while being assisted by an aide. Transported to Peace Health via ambulance. She is diagnosed with closed fracture in her lumbar vertebrae and scalp laceration

After 3 *supervised falls in short succession - we felt Canterbury was no longer a safe environment as she was a known fall risk. While the aides are kind and compassionate, we feel that additional training is imperative to prevent others from going through what our beloved parent experienced.
Sadly mom is no longer with us and we feel the falls drastically contributed to her demise.

I've worked in homes so I know. When I first walked in I saw nurses, maintenance and what I assumed to be CNA's all gathered around a circular desk, check-in station. As I continued to my Aunties room I saw not one employee assisting anyone. The smell was dealable (barely) and when I got to her room it like the 1940's. I was not at all appeased. She wasn't happy there I wasn't happy she was there so she coming home!

Right off the beach. Family of 6 and we brought our dog (60 lb shepski). They even supplied a care set for our dog, pet towels, food/water bowls, and a blanket. We were well taken care of. Thank you

We recently moved our parents to Canterbury Inn. I can’t say enough about how nice and helpful everyone has been. Sula was so supportive and gracious with her time during this transition as has each and every staff member we’ve met. I’ve been impressed and glad we chose Canterbury!
