Terrible nursing home

My grandma had redness and swelling all over her leg and nobody was aware until I came to visit one day. The nurse then looked at her leg and called the doctor. I hadn’t visited in 2 weeks, who knows how long she had the swelling for then. It turned out to be cellulitis then because of the delay, it ended up becoming osteomyelitis. And no one ever answers the phone!

Wow, I’m not surprised by the staff that works at this establishment. They were put out to have to look for my loved ones LOCATION there, then transfers me to the floor she’s on and some other cocky whatever picks up and then hangs up on me. I’ve been trying to get a hold of my aunt for 30 minutes now. I called back isn’t so convenient. They know who’s calling don’t wanna be bothered with me and not picking up the phone. That is some serious BS! There are protocols to be followed by the joint commission that they are bound to, but what do they know? They barely speak English.

My mom was transferred here directly from Northwestern Hospital in Palos Heights requiring sub-acute rehab from mild heart attack, vision loss and stroke. The lower level is very cute. It has a lot of old-fashioned features that my mom enjoyed like an ice cream shop, beauty shop, nail salon, activity center and where they do the physical therapy; it was nice and enjoyable to have family visits down there instead of sitting in her room. The campus is beautiful with a pond and a gazebo. I think the staff are doing the best they can based on their population, which are collectively, very difficult and particular with memory issues. My mother is very demanding about things that she wants like she needs ice cold water or she won't drink it and she takes all her pills one at a time, wants to watch specific tv shows so I know that she required a lot of patience from everyone. They were patient with her. I'm sure It is very hard to keep everyone happy. I do think that overall they did a great job. The nurses were excellent, especially Mabel, Sharon, Kianna & Britney. Kianna texted me updates which I appreciated greatly. Mabel went over everything for me at discharge thoroughly and hugged my mom numerous times. Sharon was rubbing my mom's back and stroking her hair when she was speaking to my mom. Lauren, discharge planner, held my moms hand when speaking to her and spent quite a bit of time speaking with me about discharge. They were all very caring, supportive, & great listeners. Yonna CNA Went above and beyond at discharge, packed up my moms things, got a cart to bring everything to car for me and pushed my mom on ramp to my car. Isabel and Jamie at the front desk were exceptional, friendly and cool. The first day I did have questions because I was confused and wasn't sure how the process works since this was our first time with our mom at a facility like this. They had someone come to speak to me within minutes to explain the process. The food was excellent my mom enjoyed everything. However, it was not a diabetic or hypertension managed diet so if your parent has dietary restrictions, this facility not a good option. They feed their residents very well. I'm sure that my mom did not really like being there Because she didn't want to be anywhere; she wanted to go home but for what she needed like rehab and physical therapy, they did a great job. It was overall very clean and staff were cleaning all the time when we came for visits. I have been to a lot of nursing homes for my job and this facility was by far the cleanest and smelled the best, which is not easy to accomplish With numerous individuals having incontinence. I do think all staff should go to a break room when looking at their phones because employees sitting at nurses station staring at cell phone does look bad and may be misconstrued as unprofessional. If my mom needed to go somewhere like this again, we would definitely bring her back here.
