I'm currently a resident here. I\n Can't stand I can't walk\n And require attention, I try not to seek too much attention. The main attention that I need outside of the medical attention.\nIs obtaining cups of ice water?I can wait up to 3 hours for a cup of ice water.After being told by a nurse they'll get someone to do it. The medical care i'm here for antibiotic iv treatment. They provide light clockwork.\nDay and night and I have no complaints concerning the medical care. The issues I've had to bring up with the administrator I've only been here about a week such as receiving mail and strange encounters with one of the staff. Were handled effectively The food is surprisingly good.I am a picky eater.\nI get the cold cereal , like frosted flakes , corn flakes plent.\nY of whole milk. The presentation of the food is awful, but the eggs taste good. The bacon is cooked well and the sauce is used on the different types of beef, chicken, Turkey pork beef. Make those meats taste pretty good. The one thing dinner lacks is enough fluids to wash it all down , and that's where the ice water comes in to play Once you drop your forkspoon or knife, you're pretty much out of luck.\nIt'll take hours for someone to answer the call to bring me a fork. The amenitiesThey have rooms where you can watch movies , gathering area and patio outside. My wheelchair is made from parts of other wheelchairs.\nAnd probably is considered unsafe.\nIt's two different size leg extensions and things of the like When I get my first piece of mail, I will place an order with Walmart.Probably a couple of gallons of water will be included. I think that is the key to comfort and happiness. Here is being able to get the things you enjoy. Coca-Cola cookies. Another forms of snacks and candy that aren't available in vending machine Abington village is what you make of it. However , you may have to wait a couple hours for a glass of water Also for some strange reason, it felt like I was drugged today. Generally\n Don't get that much sleep.\n But I slept all day. And we'll probably be falling asleep again real soon Something else just came up. I have a surgical wound on my foot. From an amputation, that's not supposed to get wet, and they're wrapping it in a plastic trash bag. Apparently i'm scheduled for a shower. A quick call to the pharmacy at any hospital would provide them with a proper wound protector like the one I had in my van The outside of the wound looks dry, but there could be a void that could fill up with tap water, and that is what my concern is more infection, more amputation, simply because it's a trash bag, instead of a surgical protect wound protector. Huh write

I moved my Dad here from another home - he has dementia and in the last month, before he came to Abbington, suffered a fall and lost a lot of weight at the hospital. My Dad is staying here, and I'm very please he is putting on weight and eating. I was there for one meal time, and it was pulled pork sandwiches, and frankly, looked restaurant quality. His cognition has improved our family is breathing a sigh of relief that we got him to a professional and compassionate place. I like that the nurses here are more experienced than where he was before. I've also found both the staff and residents to be friendly and I think the social interaction is helping him. This is the 3rd place my Dad has been since his fall, and I wish it was the first place we took him. The building and facility is less modern than where he was before but what really matters is people looking out for my Dad, and Abbington has been the best in that category - by far. It's just been such a relief to see him slowly get better, after months of getting worse at the 2 other facilities he was at previously.

Please believe the negative reviews about this place. They are definitely true based upon my experience. Exactly what the reviews said is what we experienced and much more in only 2 weeks time. This place is absolutely horrible. No one knows anything about the patients diagnosis and symptoms nor the medications they should be given. They don’t communicate with the family. They don’t like to answer the phone. They pick up the phone and hang up to avoid speaking with anyone. It appears that all the staff including the administrator and supposed to be social work are incompetent themselves. The answer to everything is I don’t know. A new patient is suppose to see a doctor for evaluation when placed in a new facility, however after two weeks still has not seen a doctor and ended up with medical issues that could have turned out very very serious. They send patients out to hospitals without notifying the family of which hospital they are being admitted to. Then you have to call all around the city of Chicago to find where your loved one is located. The hospital the nursing home said the patient was at, turned out to be the incorrect hospital. In fact the hospital said they only have a cancelled referral for the patient they had never actually been taken their at all. They say one thing and do another. They act like they are nice and caring but are just the opposite if posed with a challenging patient. I was told the patient should have never been sent to that facility because they are across the street from a train station. I certainly understand safety being the number one priority. Once you have accepted the patient and they are their no one suffers at this point but the patient if they are not done right or just getting passed off from place to place. Before you accept a patient there is a referral sent with the diagnosis, medication list, etc. it is the nursings homes responsibility to read the referral call with any question to know what the patient’s needs are and that they can meet those needs before accepting the patient. You let a patient be sent over 5 hrs from their home to then say they should have been sent here. No correction she should not have been accepted. You can’t pass the blame you have a responsibility also. Then you send the patient to the hospital with instructions do not return the patient we are not accepting her back. Leaving the patient without a place to go when you were suppose to be sending out referrals to locate another facility to place the patient at. Instead of seeing that through you just pass the buck and push the patient off on the hospital. This patient has a brain injury and is already confused, wanders, and has delirium that is the reason she is even in a nursing home. When you continuously move patients with these issues it only makes them worse and have more confusion and wandering. As people as humans this place should be ashamed of how they have treated this patient. I would advise not to place your loved one at this facility. They also lie to make things seem worse than they are with the patient. They wrote up a horrible report on this patient saying she was stealing from residents and fighting all sorts of things. Funny thing is whenever they sent her out the patient did not exhibit any of these behaviors nor cause by issue at the hospitals. Psychiatry would even see her saying her symptoms are normal with her diagnosis. As well as she had medical issues that assisted in aggravating her symptoms. This would have been known had she seen a doctor at the facility. 2 weeks of being at the facility and transferred out to hospitals 3 times. One hospital sent the patient back saying they had no open beds at the time which tells me she sent without proper protocol of reaching out to the hospital first to avoid an issue like that. This is purely sad and pathetic. They are going to respond to this saying there are inconsistencies in your story please call us to discuss the matter like see on the other reviews. There is nothing to discuss other than the place being shut down. Beware!

Absolutely atrocious facility. My family received a call that they were moving my grandmother that day because they were renovating the elevators. I find it hard to believe that they had no prior knowledge or plans about the elevator renovations yet gave us notice the same exact day they were planning on moving her. They also lost a framed photo of my grandma in their haste to get rid of her. A framed black and white photo that is irreplaceable. Not only that but they were not even interested in trying to rectify their mistake of losing it. My grandmother was 98 years old and this facility wanted to move her with no notice. She ended up passing away about a month later. The people at this facility should be absolutely disgusted with themselves and the negligence they allow to happen. If you don’t have the decency or compassion to take care of people, why are you in this field? All I have to say is that karma is real, what you put into this world you get back and I SINCERELY feel sorry for both the people under their care and the entire staff. I personally would not be able to live with myself if I were them.
