My father had surgery for a broken femur at ECMC in early February and was there for about ten days before being transferred to Harris Hill in Williamsville. That place is absolutely APPALLING. He was there for almost three weeks and his condition rapidly declined before landing in the VA hospital. I didn't even know this VA home existed, but I'm sure glad I found it. Maryanne from the admissions department made the whole process of getting my dad in there seamless and smooth. He's been there since March 16 and the care has been wonderful in every respect. The nurses, the aides, the therapists, the social work team... everything. I couldn't ask for better care for him after all he went through at that squalid craphole. Thank you to everyone at the VA Home!

Thank you to everyone who works there from security when you enter to maintenance if you need them and to all the nurses aids and PY people. It is the most wonderful place I have ever been for care of a loved one. Thank you for being there when we need you

My husband moved into the veterans home on December 1,2025. I went there weekly to visit with him. I found myself assisting with small things regarding other residents. Each time I came my husband wasn't shaved and he rarely had on his glasses or shoes on his feet and yes he walked with assistance from a walker. On 1/6/26 I visited with my husband he was his normal self as normal as he could be for his condition. Upon leaving we exchanged I love yous and I told him I would see him Thursday 1/8/2026. I received a call in the evening of the 7th from a nurse informing me that my husband had become unresponsive and was covered in vomit. Apparently my husband was provided or got his hands on solid food and he was on a puree diet and he choked on the food. He was rushed to the medical center and I arrived there shortly after. I spent the night at the medical center. I was informed that he had pneumonia in both lungs from aspiration of vomit. His blood pressure wouldn’t stabilize, he was on the highest dose of oxygen they could give him and he was suffering kidney failure , his bladder was inflamed and he had become septic. The doctor's tried everything including putting a central line in his neck to give him medical care. I was informed that he was on medication life support at that time. Needless to say my husband passed away. A day later I received a call from someone checking on his care at the home I shared he had passed away( awkward) . About a week later I received a call from the finance office basically requesting payment and if I needed assistance to reach out to medicaid to see if they would help. They couldnt wait until my husband had been laid to rest for a few weeks?? I thought placing him at a home for veterans would have been a wonderful experience but I was terribly wrong and for the record.I was sitting with my husband at his dinner time on an occasion when a woman walked by with a plate of grilled cheese sandwiches. She was about to offer one to my husband who was on a puree diet. If I had not been there it could have been a bad situation at that time rather than on the 7th. I know places are short staffed but somethings need to be fixed and I mean soon.

Truly the BEST care available anywhere in Western NY. I spend a lot of time there with my father. I see the staff first hand. The facility is spotless and Clean and smells good. Meals and snacks are plenty. The activity staff is superb and creative in finding fun and entertaining moments for our vets. The best part of this place and the heart of it are the staff. From the fabulously kind and welcoming security team to the housekeeping and dietary staff they are top notch. The crowning jewels are the nurses and the CNAs (aides). They do the daily grind with 125 patients. They exhibit genuine love and care for these most vulnerable patriots who face the end of their days with compassion and tenderness. It is truly moving to think of them and the hours and work they put in to make certain our parents are cared for in the best way. I will never be able to express enough gratitude to them for their tireless work and true kindness they extend my dad. When choosing a place for him I was told by several home caregivers who work in the business that NYS Vets home is the best around even beating out places in Buffalo and Rochester. They were right. I’m so glad he is here and will forever be grateful to them for their work and care.

This facility Forcefully moved my parents out of their room , possibly to make room for covid patients. Im Not allow to see my parents ,haven't been able to give them a hug in over a year, the depression is setting in on my parents , this place is just a nys gov. cuomo prison for veterans
