They give a false presentation during scheduled tours of the memory care unit. They staff has no knowledge of late severe stage Alzheimer's disease, how to communicate, redirect and/or calm an agitated resident. Their aim is to medicate to submission. They offer no activities on a regular basis as they represented, no snacks as written in their contract and very small portions at meals. If the patient doesn't come to the dining hall, they are not taken a meal to their room as noted in the contract. They care staff and most of the medication technicians were very nice but overwhelmed and not trained on how to deal with Alzheimer's dementia-related behaviors and communication difficulties. I would no recommend this facility for dementia care.

Our family ultimately chose to remove our mother from this facility after approximately four months due to serious and ongoing concerns regarding her safety, hygiene care, supervision, quality of life, and the overall cleanliness of her living environment. While the decision itself was clear to us, the process required time as we worked to secure a more appropriate placement.

One particularly alarming incident occurred when she was found on the floor of her room for approximately an hour and a half without staff awareness. This raised significant concerns about resident monitoring and response to potential emergencies.

In order to help monitor our mother’s safety, our family utilized an in-room camera. Through this, we became aware of multiple instances in which she required assistance after being found on the floor. On several occasions, staff response required direct phone calls from our family, and there were times when reaching staff late in the evening proved difficult. These repeated events further contributed to our concerns regarding supervision and timely response to resident needs.

We also observed troubling sanitation and environmental conditions. The facility often felt stuffy and had a persistent odor suggestive of urine or fecal matter. Within her room and bathroom there were areas that appeared to be dried bodily waste on the floors, sticky flooring, unsanitary conditions beneath the toilet seat, and numerous dark spots embedded in the bedroom floor. Our mother frequently walked barefoot in this environment, which was especially concerning. She did not have a prior history of incontinence or frequent accidents, which further heightened our concern that unsanitary conditions may have been related to other residents entering her room without adequate supervision.

Basic hygiene assistance was inconsistent. On one occasion, staff notified our family that she had not received a shower for approximately one week. Because showers were not scheduled on weekends, the total time without bathing extended to about ten days. Due to memory impairment, she required supervision with oral hygiene and did not receive adequate assistance for an extended period.

Hydration practices were another concern. Residents were expected to supply their own drinking containers or water bottles, and we did not observe consistent monitoring or encouragement of adequate fluid intake.

We also observed medication timing concerns. On more than one occasion, nighttime medication was administered at the evening meal, resulting in excessive sleepiness early in the evening.

Additionally, other residents were observed entering and remaining in her room when she was not present, raising concerns about supervision and personal safety.

During our mother’s stay, consistent activity programming and opportunities for supervised outdoor time appeared limited, which negatively impacted her overall quality of life.

These cumulative experiences led our family to lose confidence in the facility’s ability to provide a safe, clean, supportive, and engaging environment. We share our experience in hopes that other families will carefully research options, ask detailed questions, and remain actively involved in their loved one’s care to ensure they receive the dignity and attention they deserve.

this place is honestly disgusting. i came to visit a family member at the landings of cabarrus and i was shocked at how dirty everything was. the floors were sticky, there was a weird smell in the hallways, and the bathrooms looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in days. staff looked tired and unbothered, like they didn’t even wanna be there. residents were just sitting around with no one paying attention to them. i asked for help for my relative and got ignored for like fifteen minutes. feels like they only care about getting paid, not actually taking care of people. i left heartbroken and angry.
