My experience was poor. I wouldn't recommend anyone going here for rehabilitation. I arrived at the place at 4 in the afternoon. I was there because I had a knee replacement and the hospital wouldn't let me go home with out someone there to take care of me. I was up the next day and got myself washed up and dressed and wheeled myself down to pt.,without any help. I was there for 10 days, against my will, and no one changed my bed, I did have one nurse that came and checked on me and my roommate and made our beds. They screwed up my medications and when I asked when I would be able to go home, they gave me the run around. It was just a horrible stay. Again I wouldn't recommend The Grand to anyone. Thank you for listening to me.

The activities program really stands out—there’s always something going on to keep residents engaged, social, and entertained. There is also a great therapy team, that is very attentive, and truly care about residents’ progress.

My dad lived at The Grand in Chittenango for many years, and our family is very grateful for the care he received. The nurses, aides, and social work team were kind, patient, and truly dedicated to the residents. We especially appreciated the communication and support over the years. Thank you to the staff who work hard every day and took care of my dad.

The employees were wonderful to my dad and our family during his stay. Everyone was kind. His room was always kept very clean. Activities were offered that could cater to his interests. The location is beautiful and we loved to take walks along the creek.

My Mom was admitted to The Grand on May 16th. She was brought to her room and immediately put in a diaper, when up to that point, she had been able to use the bathroom with help. It went downhill from there. We did not have an orientation and later a staff member told me it "fell through the cracks". There are some good staff; but they are the exception. Mom at times laid in urine-soaked sheets and pillows. A towel on the floor contained poop. Urine-soaked clothes were thrown in her closet on top of her shoes. Incorrect medical records were kept. As shown in the attached picture, she has an injury on her right leg; the report said left leg. And oh, according to The Grand there was no injury; it just "happened". A review by an external health care provider determined it was caused by putting her in/out of a wheelchair; most likely occurred during her shower. She was supposed to be on thickened liquids with no straws. Look at the attached picture; it shows cups with straws. The pink sign on the wall states no straws. She was served cold food, and I get that. It can't all be kept warm, but I was not allowed to use the microwave oven in the kitchenette to heat it. I was not allowed to get her a cold drink from the rust covered refrigerator. I was told staff had to do it, even though I said I was trying to save them time. I had to wait sometimes more than 30 minutes for a staff member to free up to do it. Speaking of time, when the nurses bell was pressed, it took up to 45 minutes to get somebody in the room. I had been told previously that a staff member would respond within 5 minutes and if it was a non-critical call, such as wanting a cold drink, it could wait. I agree. My Mom has previously aspirated. If I hadn't been there to physically go get a nurse and if she had to wait 45 minutes, she could have died. I told that to a manager. Her response was to let her manage her staff and not time things and just to tend to my mother. Food was mostly served with plastic utensils. They advertised luxury linens, when indeed there were rips and tears in bed linens and hospital gowns. You can see I posted pictures. I have pictures of my Mom and some other awful situations, but don't want to post her face. Yes, I complained to the administrator and management. The picture of the wall with gouges in it was on the side of her bed facing the wall, so could have been repaired and not marked up with a wheelchair or walker. On September 17th I pulled Mom out of The Grand and brought her home under hospice. On October 8th I received an invoice from The Grand billing us for services performed/room and board through October 31st. Medicaid fraud at its finest? Or a mistake? I have so much more I could tell you, with pictures and other documentation to support my rating. But you get the picture with what I have already posted. Mom passed away on October 31st. I was proud to be her advocate at The Grand but disappointed I couldn't affect a change for her or others there. I say others, because I tried that too. For example, one of Mom's roommates complained because she couldn't see much out the window. There was a big truck parked in front of it every day. I found out who the truck belonged to and asked them to please park it elsewhere. It was the social worker's truck, and she kept parking there even after the request. If you have read this far, thank you. Please think twice before putting anyone in The Grand or be prepared to be there every day advocating for your person.
