Shepherd Park is a subsidized senior housing community for residents age 62 and older in Hartford, Connecticut. The community offers spacious studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, all with handicap-accessible features. Rent is based on approximately 30 percent of a resident's income, with the remainder covered by HUD subsidies.
The community provides a full-time resident services coordinator who arranges individual home care services, light housekeeping, medical appointment companionship, and laundry services. Daily meals are delivered through Meals on Wheels. Residents also have access to a nursing and food clinic as part of wellness programs.
Shepherd Park offers organized activities including yoga and exercise classes, bingo nights, computer classes, sewing and dance classes, summer cookouts, and seasonal activities such as gardening and knitting. A monthly calendar and newsletter inform residents of activity dates and times. The community features a hair dresser on-site and maintains laundry facilities on the ground floor of each building with coin-operated washers and dryers.
Originally constructed in the early 1900s as the House of the Good Shepherd, the building was rehabilitated and converted to affordable senior apartments in 1980. Shepherd Park sits on a self-contained pastoral campus in Hartford's West End, just east of the West Hartford town line, with excellent access to local and regional highways, local services, and downtown Hartford.
The community welcomes one small pet per apartment, subject to size restrictions. Residents have access to a large parking lot, elevators on all floors, and secure entry with intercom and camera controls at the main entrance.
