I went there after double neck surgery. The staff was amazing from director, coordinator, nurses, aides, doctor , therapy , event planner and even maintenance. I was so impressed from the cleanliness, food quality and quality of care. If I ever need full time placement this is the place I would want. The place does not smell like a typical nursing home as ppl would think. It’s so much better. They are a golden star of care centre and rehabilitation!! I say this after it being a first time for me going into one and I highly recommend going here. They truly care about their patients!! Thank you staff for the excellent care!!

Our loved one who has late stage alzheimer's was in a facility that was terrible. We were able to transfer her to Portland Care. Immediately we saw an improvement. She was well-cared-for every time we visited. Clean, groomed, sitting in a chair and alert. Her nursing care was excellent and the aides were always cheerful and competent. We could not ask for better care. It is so wonderful to see our loved one smile again.

My father was at Portland Care and Rehabilitation for about 9 weeks. I was absolutely thrilled with the care he received for the nursing staff, CNAs, and physical and occupational therapy. We transferred my father here from another area rehabilitation facility that was awful, and were desperate for a place that we could trust to take care of him with kindness, care and compassion. This facility was EXACTLY what we were looking for. The PT and OT departments, took him from being unable to sit on his own at the side of the bed and all transfers being in a hoyer lift to standing and walking and quite literally gave him his life back. The facility is exceptionally clean, those among the cleaning staff obviously take great pride in their work and it shows. The breakfast is cooked to order and the food in general was very good. I would absolutely recommend this facility to anyone, it is an absolute treasure!

The Rehab side is phenomenal. My aunt received great care. Staff were professional, attentive, and courteous. They answered any questions regarding care and interacted well with my aunt who has dementia. Unfortunately, she ended up needing to transfer to the long term care side which has been nothing but a disappointment. Staff lack professionalism and it seems they are under-staffed. My aunt was soaked in urine one day (through the diaper and her clothes) which makes me wonder how often are they changing her. I've witnessed staff neglect a woman who needs assistance with feeding. They tried feeding her twice and walked away. I asked her if she wanted juice, she nodded yes, I rpovided it to her and she gave me a big smile. Then a CNA came over and helped feed her cold food. Another woman asked to be put in bed after she ate her meal because she wasn't feeling well (she didn't look well) and was told she needed to wait for everyone else to finish eating. Totally unacceptable! I have vowed never to put my own mother in a nursing home and I will honor that. She will never be subjected to this type of neglect. I know some families are unable to do that and I feel very sorry for them especially if the person can't advocate for themselves. Most nursing homes are the same unfortunately. There's a handful of well meaning staff who are usually over worked and under appreciated but there's also a lot of abuse and neglect that occurs in SNFs. I had hoped that due to the old building and lack of anesthetics that this place made up for it with care, activities, etc. but sadly that is not the case.

I'm sorry I did not write a review before. My husband spent 4 1/2 years at Portland Care and I can cannot praise them enough. The nurses, cna's and staff all seemed to care about each and every patient. They helped each other as well. I spent a lot of time there with my husband and was very aware of all the extra attention and care they gave each patient. The only reason they would fire someone is if they didn't live up to the traditions and standards of Portland Care. The food was good and staff was very observant of all the patients's needs while they were eating. Brigette was an outstanding head nurse and always pitched up to help her staff. Joan Palatine
