I recently had the pleasure of staying at Otterbein of Monclova for post- acute surgical rehabilitation, and I am happy to give this facility a well-deserved 5-star review. My stay lasted approximately one month and provided me with structured physical, occupational, speech therapy and recreational that supported my recovery and helped me regain strength, confidence, and independence step by step.

During my stay, I received excellent therapy. Becky, Carol, Michael, Amanda, Joe, Kelsae and Sierra were well-trained professionals in their respective disciplines of physical, occupational, speech therapy and recreational therapy. Their expertise, patience, and encouragement played a major role in helping me achieve my recovery goals. Each session was purposeful, structured, and adjusted to my daily needs, which made steady progress possible even on more challenging days.

The number of aides was normally 12/2 and support staff made my daily experience especially comfortable. Aide Demira always greeted me with a big smile and even made me sunny-side-up eggs and always asked if I needed anything. Courtney is an extremely hard worker and always kept an eye on my laundry, love the scrambled eggs! Melissa often stopped by my room to talk with me about anything, making me feel welcome and comfortable, and she would also straighten my bed while joking with me, which helped lighten the mood. Nautica and Kym worked very well as a team and were consistently patient, helpful, and willing to accommodate my more particular meal preferences. Marcus was friendly and easygoing, never stopped working, and I especially enjoyed his sidekick mascot dog, Cali, who greeted me every morning when I was up at 5:00 a.m., which became a small but meaningful part of my routine. Renee was always so cheerful first thing in the morning and greeted me cheerfully while Tina did a superb job keeping my room spotless.

Quality of Life Coordinator Julia was consistently patient and supportive throughout my stay. She assisted me with discharge planning.

Rhonda, the dietetic technician, closely monitored my dietary needs and followed up regularly to ensure I was doing well nutritionally and that my meals aligned with my needs and preferences.

Nurse Gracie stood out as exceptional—fun, engaging, professional, knowledgeable, caring, and would hope for a nurse and made even difficult moments easier through her attitude and presence. She is invaluable to this facility to say the least. Nurses Char and Ingrid are superior. They are extremely friendly, organized, professional, and skilled. Their ability to stay composed while still being warm and approachable made a lasting positive impression on me throughout my stay. Nurse Cierra is also very personable, witty, and engaging, and her habit of calling me “buddy” always brought a smile to my face and helped create a more relaxed and comfortable environment.

The high tech computer network plays a significant role at the facility in that it allows the staff to communixcate efficiently and effectively among the departments while maintaining privacy of the residents. Most staff were equipped with laptops.

Transportation was provided to and from doctor’s appointments and procedures. The drivers were timely, friendly and courteous. The grounds were well maintained, beautiful and private.

I am aware that I have left important team players out of this review due to the fact that I cannot remember their names. Please accept my sincerest apologies, you are all the best!

My experience at Otterbein of Monclova was very positive and impressed my visitors as well. The combination of the “small house” model, skilled therapy, dedicated staff, and a supportive environment made a real difference in my recovery.

I firmly recommend this facility to others in need of post-acute rehabilitation services.
