Outstanding! I was out of town for a few days and I had Beth and her staff check in on my mom a few times while I was gone. My mom is pretty self sufficient. She is 92, we share a home together, but I wanted someone to check in on her while I was gone. Beth came by first and had a long chat with us about our needs and wants. While I was out of town mom had help in the mornings and again in the evenings before bed. Brittney, Jordan and "OC" (that is what mom wrote down, sorry if it is wrong) were helpful, kind and did laundry and what not besides helping with dinner and breakfast. Plus, they left notes on each visit. I was a little apprehensive about someone else in the house, but after talking to my mom the first visit, she was so happy! They made her feel so special. Right now, this is exactly what I needed, a chance to get away and not be worried about mom being alone. In the future as our needs change, I will be reaching out again for more service. I will also feel better about being gone for a few days at a time now instead of not taking the break that I need. Thanks!

Nurse Next Door (NND) is an international franchise-operated, private pay home care business that is not covered by Medicare or Medicare Advantage programs. This review is limited to my personal experience using the local franchise in Urbana, IL to care for my wife. The Urbana franchise is managed/operated by an accomplished nurse. I'll call her "Beth" for this review. NND-Urbana is located in Ogden, IL, and serves clients living in east central Illinois. If you are looking for the best home care agency to provide outstanding care for your loved one, who lives in east central Illinois, I strongly recommend Nurse Next Door-Urbana. My wife's condition degenerated daily during her hospital stay. Knowing that my wife wanted to be at home when she was discharged, I found information online about NND-Urbana, as well as Beth's background and qualifications, then called Beth to hire them on the day before my wife was discharged. Beth convinced me that she and her staff were committed to working continuously, not only to provide care for my wife, but to stay busy helping us in any way possible while they were in our home. She fulfilled her promise. Beth agreed to come to our house immediately upon discharge, and she did. You won't find many home care agencies that respond that quickly. I also arranged for my wife to enter the Hospice program once she got home. The benefit of entering Hospice was that they paid for oxygen equipment, medicine, and some supplies through Medicare. I knew I had to rely on Nurse Next Door to provide nursing care. The day my wife was discharged after her 19-day hospitalization, she was close to death. When she came home at 1 p.m., Beth and two of her nurses were there. I sensed instantly that all three of them were loving, caring souls. She told me that she only hires nurses, LPNs and CNAs who share her values. They each must possess a caring nature, credentials for their job, a passion for hard work, and devotion to providing care tailored to each client and their family members. All her staff are screened and reference-checked. I hired NND-Urbana planning for them to be in our home 24 hours a day for a month, but it was not to be. Beth took on the job herself, staying with my wife and me, taking care of her with utmost skill and compassion, administering medications by mouth with a syringe to keep her calm and eliminate her pain and anxiety. When she left me alone with my wife, she did loads of laundry, unloaded a 6-shelf bookcase filled with books and junk in my wife's bedroom, organized supplies and put them in another bookcase, frequently checking my wife to make sure she was comfortable. Beth's explanations and actions gave me confidence that my wife was getting the best care possible. We sat at my wife's bedside as her condition deteriorated until she died at 6:40 a.m. the next day. Beth then took care of me and made the necessary calls, waiting for the funeral home to pick up my wife, and spent another hour comforting me before she left. I would trust Beth's commitment to hiring staff who share her values, even though my wife and I didn't get a chance to have any of them as caregivers. She worked, energetically, for 24 hours straight. She said hard work invigorates her and her staff. I believe that. I've had three other home care agencies take care of my wife over the past ten years, and none of them came close to providing this level of service. There is no doubt in my mind that Nurse Next Door-Urbana is by far the best home care agency in this area. In summary, Beth's ability to relieve my wife's misery gave me the comfort I was aching for, providing what my dear wife needed as her sweetness came to an end.
