We visited with our cousin, Lynn. Her husband, Jerry, was there the last few months of his life. She donated a box of some of his shirts and brought bookmarks thanking the staff that cared for Jerry. Your facility is top notch - clean, no unpleasant smells, and residents all seem well taken care of. Thank you for what you do!

I have been visiting a resident at the New Jersey Memorial Home for about one year. I am ALWAYS impressed by the fact that the facility is always so clean and smells so nice. The staff look you in the eye and greet you. Today as I left, my friend said that she wished her father could have been in such a nice facility before he died. Please continue to train your staff so well and let them know that their hard work does not go unnoticed.

I took a tour of the home. I will give you my honest opinion. The place is very clean and the staff is busy. The grounds are beautiful well kept . The memory unit is especially hard on the staff with alarms sounding and the patient needed care. I never realized how many laws and rules have to be followed. They have strict food policy and medication schedule. My suggestion is the VA itself is not doing enough for their veterans The staff in memory unit should be more supported as a caretaker with a spouse it's overwhelming. They need to have a Veteran buddy who could show the veteran what it's like to live there .There are many vets resistant to give up their control. There are many misconceptions and sterotypes about this place. I am in the process working with the admissions it is beyond frustrating trying to get VA appts trying to get all the requested info. The process should be easier. Also they need to have respite care brought back. One thing no one realizes is the burden on a caretaker with no family support The VA does not do their job A lot gets pushed aside I have been dealing with the VA for 15 years. Depending on who you are forced to deal with. . Also at this place there seems to be a lot of activities and they really try to make it a home. I did speak to staff. I'm not sure how the staff are trained and if they do get training monthly. I would add more staff to patient areas cut down on unesscary staff combine certain depts. .Another change I'd make is the on site store process which is really unesscary too many donations Instead each month a veteran gets a package of what they need and want. More focused less clutter and waste. Donations requested should be more focused on activities more people coming in like a crafter or a Gardner or a magic show. More expierances on site. A library with books would be nice . Have an author come. Our veterans deserve the best.
