This is a wonderful, well managed Nursing Home /Rehab facility. My friend who is in the Rehab section is being well-cared for. Several of the top Administrators came up to speak to us when we were there today. I have to applaud the staff and managers here. Everyone seemed to be taking good care of the patients. UPDATE on Discharge 5/28/2026: My friend was discharged after 4 weeks at the Montcare Rehab in Potomac. She eventually became more independent and the specialists in PT, OT, and Speech took very good care of her and thankfully she progressed enough to be discharged. Because she was a fall-risk, she was placed by the nurses station in a wheel chair during the day and the family hired a patient sitter at night. The nursing, Aide, and all other staff were very attentive throughout her stay and they gave her a wonderful sendoff when she left for home. Even the Chief Adm and the Chief Nurse accompanied her to the front door to bid farewell. She got excellent and comprehensive discharge instructions and those were reviewed with us before leaving. My friend is a nurse and she gave the staff very high marks.

Our experience at Montcare Potomac was deeply disappointing. My mother was admitted here to recover from hip surgery and receive regular PT and OT. While the physical and occupational therapy teams met expectations, every other aspect of her stay fell short of professional standards. The facility lacks clear protocols or any sense of a standard schedule. Our arrival set the tone for the entire stay. No one was available to meet the ambulance, and our family was forced to wander the halls just to find a staff member. Once she was settled, the lack of oversight became even more apparent. Because my mother has dementia and cannot advocate for herself, we remained by her side. We witnessed firsthand as call buttons went ignored. When we finally stepped into the hallway to find assistance, we were often told staff members were at lunch. It feels as though the staff does the bare minimum, especially when they believe no one is watching. Memory care should never be an excuse for providing less than adequate care, yet that is exactly what we witnessed. I am particularly frustrated by what felt like a "bait and switch." I toured the facility beforehand and was shown private rooms on the first floor which are in much better condition. The second floor, where my mother was placed, is a stark contrast—peeling wallpaper, broken furniture handles, and bathrooms that feel unclean. The clinical follow-through was equally poor. Despite having a nutritionist on staff, no one ever consulted us regarding my mother's dietary restrictions. We explicitly instructed the nursing staff not to give her sugary juices to avoid spiking her blood sugar. While they acknowledged the request, they failed to follow through, delivering orange juice with her breakfast the next morning. Had we not been there to intervene, her health would have been at risk. Furthermore, basic administrative tasks were handled poorly. The social worker was asked to order a wheelchair and ordered the wrong size. While I recognize that having family advocates present can add stress to a team, the staff showed no extra concern; if anything, they backed off, seemingly assuming we would handle her care ourselves. Everyone here seems to be passing the buck, ignoring patient health, safety, and comfort. These facilities are paid significant sums by Medicare and private insurance, yet Montcare is not delivering on its promise of quality care. We have moved my mother out of this facility to ensure her safety.

Montcare is an excellent place for seniors. From the moment I entered , the lady at the front desk helped me identify myself on a computer . Then She showed me the way where my friend was waiting for her appointment with the therapist . The nurses are very friendly and helpful . My friend told me how she is taken care of . The place is so welcoming and clean. I truly recommend Montcare to all seniors who need to be pampered.

I could go into a lot of details but it’s not worth my time or effort. My brother was in Montcare of Potomac and the experience was not good. My brother was always hungry and wet. We had to call for nurses to come to him. They did not let us know that his insurance had expired so when we went to take him out of this horrible place we owed a lot of money. Which we did not mind to pay to keep our brother looking good and where he would get the proper care. He was always wanting to leave that place and now we know why. One nurse named Patricia was very nice very helpful. The others no thank you!!!! He was always in the same clothes. Which he had plenty of different clothing. Finally when we called an hour before we came to get him out of this mess. They did not have him ready. We had to pack his items. One of the administrators help me pack. The other nurse did nothing but complain.

I am not one to complain that much but our family had the worst experience with the Memory Care/Dementia unit of Montcare Potomac with our Mom. Although some of the staff was good, they do not have enough staff to cover many of the patients. The food was very poor and nursing care was disappointing. Our mother had lost nearly 17 pounds during her two month stay there at the facility. She was mostly neglected during the evening shift having fallen twice. Our family does not recommend this place at all and we had filed a formal complaint with the Ombudsman.
