McClure Miller Respite House, UVM Health - Home Health & Hospice

McClure Miller Respite House is a hospice residence in Colchester, Vermont, operated by UVM Health - Home Health & Hospice. It is the state's only Medicare-certified home for the terminally ill, offering round-the-clock care in a home-like setting.

The facility provides comprehensive hospice care focused on managing symptoms of serious illness and providing practical support. Care is delivered by an interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed nursing assistants, social workers, chaplains, trained volunteers, and bereavement specialists. Services include medical treatment, access to equipment such as oxygen, home delivery of medications, and 24/7 availability for emergency support.

The residence contains 21 private rooms intentionally designed for comfort and care needs. The home features an open kitchen and welcoming living room where families and friends can gather, as well as dedicated spaces throughout for reflection and time with loved ones. Technology is integrated into the design to support advanced pain management and symptom control.

The McClure Miller Respite House accepts patients receiving hospice care in other locations for intensive medical care stays of up to five days, as well as caregiver respite stays. Hospice care is available to anyone with a terminal diagnosis expected to result in death within six months, with potential extension beyond this timeframe for eligible patients.

Medicare covers 100% of hospice services provided in a patient's home when clinically eligible. Stays at the McClure Miller Respite House may be subject to daily residency fees determined on a sliding scale, with financial aid available. The facility accepts Medicaid Long Term Care, commercial insurance as applicable, and private pay.
