Masonicare at Mystic was the place I chose after looking at various places for my Mom who needed Assisted Living. Her first year there was good but then things there went down hill when she began to decline and needed a higher level of care. First of all the Pros: It's a very nice size facility and I like the decor of the building. The receptionists, transportation team, and dining staff are very nice and helpful. CONS: The Executive Director is rude and a bully. In a Care Meeting she did not in any way fulfill the mission and vision of Masonicare. They are also short staffed and staff turnover is high. The CNAs that cared for my mom came and went just when she needed consistent caregivers. The management team is also awful in returning calls and emails. I often had to wait 3-4 days to get a return call! The last straw was when the Executive Director found my mom outside in her wheelchair not responding to her name. They called me when she was already in the ER and the Masonicare staff person who called me said my mom was unresponsive for 20 minutes before the ER staff arrived. She then went on to tell me that she was really busy and didn't have time to call me until the Executive Director reminded her! Then when I called the ER the woman asked me why Masonicare waited 20 minutes to call 911? Luckily my mom was okay but I often found her in a soiled bed when I visited and when I called for her to be changed or to use the bathroom we often waited for 30 minutes. She is now in a much better environment so I am so glad I found a wonderful place for my mom where everyone cares for her with smiles, respect, and dignity.
