My spouse whom I will call Beth has been a resident for half a year following a debilitating stroke; she lives in Memory Care at Ivy Park/Seal Beach. Two days ago when I arrived, I found her on the floor in some distress and unable to help herself. Caregivers responded quickly to begin helping, but real action arrived when Tami Ojwang, Executive Director, came on the seen. Without hesitation or negative word, she and Irene, Director of Memory Care, calmly collected Beth by way of the Hoyer Lift and transferred her to a waiting, warm shower while I laid out fresh clothing. In a matter of minutes, order was restored, Beth's equanimity had returned, and she and I headed out to a nice dinner in the main dining room. I remain grateful to and proud of the professional skills that Tami and Irene exhibited: they had confidently taken the matter in hand, restored Beth's dignity, and made me feel as if the world was again turning on its axis.
