About HarborChase of Branford

HarborChase of Branford is an assisted living and independent living community in Branford, Connecticut. The facility serves older adults and individuals recovering from medical events who want to maintain independence with available care support.

Family experiences at the community are mixed and reflect operational inconsistency. Multiple families praise specific staff members, particularly nurses described as "absolutely wonderful, kind, caring, attentive", and highlight the variety of daily activities and recreation offerings. Leadership engagement, especially from the admissions team, receives consistent recognition for responsiveness and transparency. However, several families report significant concerns: high staff turnover, inconsistent follow-through on care plans, insufficient evening staffing, and communication gaps between nursing and care staff. One family noted that "every time I visited, there was new staff," while another described pressing a call bell in the evening with no one available to respond. Food quality and facility maintenance are generally described as adequate to good.

The community holds a 4 out of 5 Google rating based on 43 reviews. Ratings span from 1 to 5 stars, with the highest marks often crediting individual staff members and leadership, while lower ratings cite staffing reliability and care consistency as primary frustrations.

The nurses try their best, but for the 12k per month price, the food served at memory care is awful. All the food is brown and white, starch and cheap protein, nary a vegetable in sight. It isn’t that hard to do better, unless the new corporate takeover has shrunk the food allocation.

The food can be very good and while the apartments are very small, they are adequate. Their activities are also excellent and seem to be all day. The reoccurring problem is that the nursing staff fails far too often at communication and, worse, taking accountability for the clear errors caused by that void in communication. They blame each other or the elderly residents. This includes paid for oversight and dosing of medications. This is frightening. I believe that there are some very good people there, but consistency is needed and very lacking at the moment. We wish that we could recommend HarborChase.

My Mom moved into the Cove 2 weeks ago, and the nurses have been absolutely wonderful, kind, caring, attentive and informative with our family concerns and needs. Evelyn and Harold especially have been absolutely the best going above and beyond with my mom and caring for her and making her feel comfortable. The CNA’s have are also wonderful with my mom trying to make very comfortable the best they can. Stacy and Wayne run the activities with passion and fun truly coming from the heart. Lewis, I can’t say enough about Lewis who showed us Harbor Chase, who helped us get through the process, and find what was very best for Mom. He has been the rock of this process for my family and we can’t thank him enough for helping us all through this transition. Thank you all for what you do everyday, Harbor Chase is lucky to have you all and so are we❤️Donna and Patti and family
