The great, the bad, and the ugly. First, the Physical, Occupational, and Speech (swallowing) therapy was excellent and effective for my 93 year-old mom. I choose FutureCare for that reason and was not disappointed. The state of the facility and rooms was a bit run-down and dingey, but that didn't concern me that much. The care planning was great, but the nurses always seemed short of time and I was concerned about my mom getting focused attention. But... the aides. My mom came pretty weak and, as other reviews have mentioned, was told to pee and poop in diapers they gave her rather than take the time to help her to the bathroom. She often lay in that for a long time before a call bell was answered. Sometimes hours. We hired a private aide to help during the day, but it was a mistake of mine to not do the same at night when it seems things were even worse. The bathroom was not well cleaned and my mom got C. diff not once, but twice while she was there. Summing up, I think this is a great place to go if you are strong enough to advocate for yourself and take control of your circumstances, and a place to avoid if you are weak and need attentive, caring, proactive floor staff. 5 stars for rehab staff, 3 stars for the physical facility, 0 stars for the floor care and cleanliness.

Simply a great rehab facility. My husband, Craig Craddock, was there twice and he received exceptional care each time. Craig has gone to the Lord but I will never forget the excellent care he received at Futurecare Chesapeake. Thank you to all of the staff members who helped Craig and made his stay worthwhile.

My son was in there 2 weeks. Its a terrible place. Theres so much lacking. The day staff is more concerned about giving meds and moving on. The aides can take over 1 hour or more to help you, the overnight people were almost non existent. I had to go there after my son called 4 times in 2 hours he had to pee and no one came, I got there no one came in for another 30 min. I saw 4 people sleeping in the hall. I spent 3 nights there because I didn't trust the mid or overnight staff. The food was always cold and not alot of it. I guess eat or go hungry. My son's room mate waited 3 hours for someone to come and clean him up, why because the aid was sleeping outside the door and didnt hear the nurse. I wouldn't advise this place . I didn't expect 5 star service. I did expect the staff to be compassionate to the people there. The nights I stayed I never saw anyone check on the people in the rooms. There are no doctors or upper staff there on the weekends. Its best if you just stay in your room and don't ask for anything.

Futurecare Chesapeake is a great facility. As a nurse visiting patients getting hospice care, I find nursing staff invested in care and attentive to patients. My coworkers have reported it is their favorite facility due to the excellent care given by staff. I was am always greeted warmly at the front desk and guided to to my destination. Staff Melissa Palmer is engaged with family members and brightens up everyone's day with smiles and conversation. Many of the patients have made friends with eachother and are interacting in the common areas and out in the sunshine when I visit.
