I am writing to raise a serious concern regarding the marketing and reviews for Evergreen Senior Living-Decatur and Memory Care Legacy. Their website resembles nothing that actually happens inside Evergreen Senior Living-Decatur. Evergreen Senior Living-Decatur routinely admits residents with dementia onto the Evergreen Senior Living side under the guise of placing them on the Memory Care Legacy side later. Evergreen Senior Living- Decatur is entirely unequipped for Dementia care, lacking trained staff - 0% trained in dementia care-it’s heart breaking to see and witness with your loved one, let alone physically and mentally and financially exhausting for the residents family that have been misled by this company/business. Absolutely everything on the website and in their pamphlets looks exactly like what your loved one needs so you will decide to move your loved one in. Then you will discover that they have very good marketing and that is it and you are still in the same position trying to figure out how to get help in taking care of your loved one. I genuinely cannot believe this exists.

The state inspectors have been in 5 times in 3 weeks during July. This place is so mismanaged it’s beyond sad. DO NOT let your loved ones live here. The only area that’s good is activities director who actually cares for people. Overworked cnas, constant turnover throughout including management, residents not getting call buttons answered, trash not picked up for 2 weeks, missing and over issuing of medicines, injuries, ect ect ect. Don’t take my word for it, before long you will be able to read it online on idhp. Used to be a good place to live, wouldn’t recommend it today.

Great community with a warm, homelike feel. The team here is clearly dedicated to their residents, and the building was well-kept and comfortable. A solid option for families looking for quality senior care.

My experience has been smooth and I have found the staff friendly and competent. The amenities offered at this clean and well maintained facility are far above anything offered in the area. I would strongly encourage people to come here.

Evergreen has gone downhill and we are not getting the services promised and paid for. 💔 My MIL has been at Evergreen nearly three years, since March 2023. We were absolutely thrilled with this facility for the whole first year because it truly felt like a loving home where the residents were happy and valued. The care was excellent, as was the food and staff morale. Every assurance we were given at the time of placement was followed through on. Unfortunately, the care has continued to decline over the last two years - seemingly due to changes in management. The quality of care is lacking so much that my BIL must go daily to make certain my MIL receives her medication and bathes regularly. The residents no longer seem like a happy bunch, as many are frustrated with the lack of care and the way they are often treated rudely. It is evident others are not getting their hair washed or clothes changed regularly. Staff morale has dramatically decreased and led to many employees leaving (they have specifically said they were leaving due to management). My family has had multiple informal and at least five formal meetings with the director or head of nursing, all of which result in a plethora of excuses and no lasting improvement in care. (For reference: my MIL has Alzheimer's and needs reminders to do things, but she can still do them on her own. We were assured assisted living was appropriate, as she does not require skilled nursing care.) The whole point of selling her home and moving her to Evergreen was to insure she was cared for, but she is paying far too much for her son to do the caretaking. While it is a fine location for an independent person, and there are good qualities about the facility, we are seeking alternative options and would not recommend Evergreen if actual assistance is needed for a loved one.
