Evergreen Care Home is an assisted living home in Buena Park, California. It has been licensed since 2007 by the California Department of Social Services as a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE), often called a board and care home. The home is run by Director Hae Ryun Cho and her husband, and it serves Korean-speaking older adults.
Residents receive three freshly prepared Korean meals a day, along with snacks. Menus include soups, stews and namul, and separate meal plans are prepared for residents with diabetes, heart or kidney conditions. Korean-speaking caregivers are present around the clock, and meals, conversation and daily routines take place in Korean within a Korean home culture.
The home keeps its resident count small so that caregivers can give each person personal attention and come to know each resident's name, tastes and routines. It offers private and semi-private rooms. Activities include conversation with Korean friends, exercise, and gardening together.
The home sits in the quiet Los Coyotes neighborhood, right next to the Buena Park Golf Course. It is close to Fullerton, La Palma, Cerritos, La Mirada, Anaheim and Cypress, which makes it convenient for family visits. Its approach draws on the Korean value of hyo, with the aim of giving residents a family-centered home where they feel loved and at ease.
Residents must be 65 or older, able to walk on their own (a cane is acceptable), and free of mental disorders that would affect group living. Applicants with limited mobility are reviewed through a conversation before a decision is made. Admission is first come, first served, and families can be placed on a waiting list when the home is full.
