About East Carolina Rehab and Wellness

East Carolina Rehab and Wellness is a skilled nursing and long-term care facility in Greenville, North Carolina. It serves patients transitioning from hospital stays as well as residents requiring ongoing care.

Family experiences at the facility are mixed. Families highlight inconsistent care quality, with some staff members earning particular praise—one family noted a van driver who "made us all laugh and spoke to everyone," while another praised an assistant kitchen supervisor for treating residents "like family." However, families also report significant concerns: inadequate personal care for long-term residents, cold meals delivered late, and kitchen issues including burnt food. One family wrote that their father was "left to sit in wet pants most days" during his long-term care stay.

Families consistently mention the facility's physical condition as needing upgrades—bathrooms, plumbing, appliances, linens, and overall building maintenance are cited as areas requiring attention. Several families note that staff members "do the best they can with what they have to work with" and would benefit from larger team numbers and higher pay.

The facility holds a 4 out of 5 Google rating based on 23 reviews, reflecting the gap between standout individual staff members and systemic facility challenges.

ECU Rehabilitation definitely needs some major upgrades, but I want to take a moment to recognize the few staff members who truly keep this place going. My grandmother is currently a resident, and while she’s not impressed with most of the staff (especially the cooks—burnt food way too often), she absolutely loves Quincy, the assistant kitchen supervisor. She says he treats her like family, and honestly, she only eats when he’s around. Office staff like Dora and Juanita are incredibly kind and responsive, and Gwen is nothing short of amazing. When the administrator is dismissive or unhelpful, Gwen always steps in and handles things with care and professionalism. She’s been there a long time, and I pray she never leaves because I have multiple family members at this facility. On the flip side, the Director of Nursing, Vanessa, and the admissions staff member need serious reevaluation. Their attitudes and lack of empathy do not reflect the standard of care any family should accept. Overall, it’s the good people like Quincy, Gwen, Dora, and Juanita who keep this place afloat—and they deserve all the recognition.

It's nice to have a safe place to stay , the facility needs updates in the building and better food choices, new sheets and blankets, replace bathrooms, plumbing work, better appliances for kitchen and wash rooms. The staff members do the best they can with what they have to work with. They all need a raises. More employees Thursday out the facility.

I'm giving 5 stars for the new driver of your van. She is a jewel. Has a great sense of humor and a real nice attitude. Her visit at the Dental Care Center on Arlington Blvd today made me forget that my tooth was hurting. What a sweet lady. I hope you all do everything keep her because the other lady wasn't as nice. I believe her name is Liz. She made us all laugh and she spoke to everyone.

My father went in as a rehab patient from the hospital and the rehab staff is very friendly and helpful. After 6 weeks he became a long-term care patient. He was left to sit in wet pants most days. At night when he rang for help, sometimes the aid would walk in turn off the bell and leave without even asking about his need. His meals seldom came in a timely manner and were usually cold. We had Care Plan meetings to discuss his care and nothing ever came from them. I brought to the attention of the administrator many times that the roaches were horrible and was always told that they had just sprayed or they were spraying the next day. There were some staff members that were very loving and caring. Rehab people are great. They have a great deal of staff turnover here. When I decided to move my father to another facility I was told by the activities director that it would be no different anywhere else, sorry to disappoint you but he loves the new facility and is so happy. The administrator never acknowledged my father leaving, even after being there a year. We almost went to another facility that looks beautiful but found out through reviews and research that it was no better than here. That is why I decided to write this review because when the time comes to have to put our family in a facility we want them to be happy and cared for.

They are very friendly and helpful. The only issue is that the handy capped parking is too far away from the main entrance.
