About Diversicare Of Bessemer

Diversicare of Bessemer is a skilled nursing and long-term care facility in Bessemer, Alabama, with a licensed capacity of 180 residents.

Family reviews reveal a facility with sharp divides in experience. Some families report serious concerns: understaffing that places strain on the small per-floor teams, resident falls and delayed response to call lights, and difficulty reaching staff by phone. One family withdrew their mother from a 22-day rehab stay due to what they described as negligence and mishandling of care. Other families, however, describe a clean facility with professional and helpful staff, noting residents appear well-groomed and cared for, with one family expressing appreciation after two years of their brother's care there.

The facility holds a 3.3 out of 5 Google rating across 74 reviews, reflecting these mixed experiences. Prospective residents and families should weigh the positive observations of cleanliness and long-term satisfaction against documented concerns about staffing levels and responsiveness.

Thanks to the staff for the care that has been provided to my brother. He has been in this center for 2 years. My family appreciates it very much.

They hang up on you and then send your calls to voicemail when you call back. They ignore the help light when you need help. If possible go to another facility.

How do you feel about your loved one being treated like a third world resident??? Urgent Concerns Regarding Understaffing at Diversicare of Bessemer My time spent visiting a loved one at Diversicare of Bessemer has revealed a deeply troubling issue: the facility is severely understaffed. It pains me to witness the immense pressure placed on the three dedicated staff members per floor, who are responsible for approximately 60 residents per floor (please be aware that there are 4 floors at this facility.) Residents have shared with me that they feel invisible much of the time.  This isn't sustainable, and it's certainly not fair to either the caregivers or those receiving care. While the staff themselves are truly commendable, the root of this problem lies squarely with Diversicare Corporation. Your corporate cost-cutting measures are creating an environment where adequate care is jeopardized for the sake of profit. It's imperative that you increase staffing levels to a minimum of four per floor. Our loved ones deserve better, and your staff deserves the resources to do their vital work effectively. We expect and demand appropriate staffing for the well-being of all residents.

Worst place ever to care for your loved one if you love them and value their care at the hands of incompetent people. My mother stayed here for a 22 day rehab in which she did not complete because I pulled here form the facility and took her home due to facility negligence and the mishandling of my moms care while at the facility. She also fell out of bed and was in her room for some time per facility because they don’t know when she actually fell they just happened to find her. I am sad and utterly unhappy with the report that was given to me when they called to inform me as the nurse was saying everything was fine, however she was found on the floor in a perpendicular position. If you love your mom or dad please be careful and make sure they don’t end up in this position like me being hurt on how this facility value care and compassion.
