I don’t like to write negative reviews but I’m doing so in hopes to save some families some heartache.

I strongly do not recommend Danbury Brunswick for anyone looking for memory care support.

Here are some facts from this past year when my loved one was living in Danbury’s memory care facility.

Lost or misplaced medication on multiple occasions

Staff turn over rate is horrendous. They claim it’s the nursing field but I know for a fact it isn’t. They abuse and disrespect their employees on a daily basis.

In a year they went through 5 Directors of nursing.

Their ratio is often 2 staff to 30 high need residents

They have cleaning staff fill in when aides aren’t available.

They interrupt medication distribution by using nurses to work in the kitchen.

They never communicated to our family when our loved one saw the memory care doctor, when meds were changed or new conditions presented.

In particular our family member developed a wound that was documented but never made us aware of it. It turned into an emergency situation. If we were told what was going on we could have done something immediately

They promise the rooms are cleaned once a week. They have schedules posted in residents rooms, schedule is rarely followed. Our family members room smelled, and there were stains on the floor often time for weeks.

Same for laundry. Was supposed to be done twice a week. A schedule was posted in their rooms. Often times it wasn’t done even once a week.

When concerns are brought to management, they belittle you, gaslight and make you feel it’s your fault or responsibility to ensure basic care is given to your family member.

They don’t respect patients diabetic needs. They provide juice, pop, desserts at every meal. They promise you at orientation they can accommodate dietary needs, it’s a sales pitch, it doesn’t happen.

We had several meetings with management about all the above and there was always a lot of talk and no follow through. They never take responsibility and often blame their staff who are all doing the best they can with no support and for constantly being understaffed.

For paying $10,000 a month they do not provide the things they advertise and when you request for them to do the basic care they promise they label you as a focus family who creates problems for them.

It’s extremely sad the way corporate and management mistreat employees, residents and families. They clearly want to charge a high price but give minimum amount of care. Please save yourself some heartache and disappointment and look elsewhere for your family member to live.
