PT, CR and ED departments are wonderful! OT definitely needs improvement. Most of the OTs are new graduates and inexperienced and don’t have a clue of what they’re doing especially one of the newer OTs who is having romantic relationship with one of her patients. Very inappropriate. But other than that, most are wonderful! Transportation can also be improved.

The Promise and Peril of CNS - When I first heard about the CNS rehabilitation facility in Irving, Texas, I was hopeful. The concept seemed promising - a place where brain injury patients could receive specialized care and support on their journey to recovery. However, as I've come to learn through personal observations and the experiences of THREE friends who've been residents there, the reality falls far short of the ideal. From the moment you step into the facility, the problems are apparent. The apartments, meant to be a home away from home for recovering patients, are in a shocking state of disrepair. Kitchens, bathrooms, and living areas are poorly cleaned, with inadequate sanitation practices putting residents at risk. I've personally witnessed a disturbing example of this negligence: staff rolling a patient out of the bathroom and directly to the dining table without any attempt to sanitize the wheelchair or the patient's hands. This blatant disregard for basic hygiene is not only unsettling but potentially dangerous for vulnerable patients. Even more concerning is the lack of wheelchair accessibility throughout much of the facility - a glaring oversight for a center dedicated to rehabilitation. The staff situation is equally troubling. There's a revolving door of caretakers, with new faces appearing weekly. This constant turnover means that staff often lack crucial knowledge about individual patients' needs and care plans. I've witnessed untrained temporary staff attempting to transfer my patient loved one to and from his wheelchair, risking injury through their inexperience. Communication breakdowns are rampant. Concerns raised by patients and their families often go unanswered, lost in the void between an overworked residential staff and a seemingly distant management team. This lack of responsiveness extends to critical areas like medication management, with staff sometimes failing to document important changes in patients' prescriptions. Perhaps most alarming are the security issues. The facility's location, opposite a set of low-income apartments, introduces potential risks. Yet the security measures in place are woefully inadequate. The main gate doesn't fully enclose the complex, and apartment doors are frequently left unlocked. At night, the situation becomes even more precarious, with reports of staff missing from their posts, leaving vulnerable patients unprotected. Patient dignity and privacy seem to be afterthoughts. there have been instances of staff entering patients' bathrooms without warning. For my beloved, I've witnessed the consent anxiety of the having all of the different people coming in and out to clean his exposed soiled body. Some residents live in constant stress, feeling threatened by staff who they believe are documenting their behavior to potentially deny them insurance benefits. It's not all bad news. There are some dedicated staff members on the residential side who genuinely care and have the experience to help patients make progress. The rehab services themselves are beneficial. But these positives are overshadowed by the residential facility's deep-rooted issues. The toll on patients is clear. One of my friends, who left the facility, saw his blood pressure return to normal after departure - a stark indicator of the stress he'd been under. Another witnessed distressing incidents, including a patient being flipped in their wheelchair and his own roommate falling due to improper securement. As much as I want to believe in the potential of CNS, I can't in good conscience recommend the residential care in its current state. The risks to patient safety, dignity, and well-being are simply too high. For those considering this facility for a loved one, I strongly advise looking into alternatives - whether that's a different center or arranging for home care with dedicated staff. CNS Residential needs a complete overhaul. From improving staff training and retention to addressing the myriad safety and accessibility issues, there's a mountain of work to be done.

The people who work at the actual centre are fantastic and truly want to help the patients. My time in the apartments could have been better but that is only because I didn't advocate for myself. My recovery could have gone better if I had spoken up. Instead I probably missed out on more improvement because I didn't ask important questions to the individual staff working in the apartment I lived in.

Centre for Neuro Skills has helped regain my balance giving me more confidence to perform daily living activities. They have also improved my cognitive skills and focus. The staff are friendly, professional and highly qualified. If you have suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury or Stroke, I highly recommend the therapies provided by Centre for Neuro Skills.

I am currently a patient at CNS and I couldn't be more satisfied with my living situation. This is definitely the place to be if you're recovering from any type of injury. The staff is wonderful! Mr. John the property manager is absolutely wonderful. He takes your concerns seriously and does not stop until your concerns are taken care of 100%. CNS Nurses rock here! Very happy very satisfied resident!
