EDIT: PLEASE READ your parent will never experience end of life if they have their way. Canyon Trails does not have good experience with coordination for hospice in my opinion. They gave antibiotics to my mother and so she spent the last three months of her life starving to death. It was my mother‘s wish, and it was on her POLST report what she wanted. It was ignored. I was dismissed. It’s despicable the way they sit them up in wheelchairs like weekend at Bernie’s. They did not have adequate staff in the memory care department to allow people to rest in their beds. It was sad to see my mom suffer so in the end when it could’ve been just such a good experience, start to end. Peter B. saw his staff directly lie to me about medications. They DID NOT put the pain patch ordered until the last day of her life.
And even though they aren’t supposed to be getting food or getting a soft diet, I found my mother with chicken in her mouth from dinner the night before. My mother was unable to swallow due to her Alzheimer’s, they tried to shove food in there. The poor staff is overworked and just doing what they’re told.

Don’t be fooled. They are a business and they’re there to make money. There was no reason I had to spend an extra three months of rent.

And check your Medicare statements they’re getting paid for a lot of stuff. It’s not just your monthly rent you pay that runs that place.

I think there’s a new sheriff in town and the place really isn’t great anymore. Money, money, money money. I am sad to have to write this. They should’ve refunded my mom’s final month. It’s embarrassing the lack of care for my mother’s end of life.

The staff is absolutely lovely but 100% overworked and probably underpaid. They don’t even give them basic tools to help the patients. I brought in giant Legos and fidget books which gives the staff way to interact with the patients. They only had loud music and a few coloring pages. So lame.

We have been at Canyon Trail for two weeks now. It’s been an amazing transformation for my Mom. She has made friends, does daily activities, has encouragement from staff and three meals she actually enjoys! It is really a new life.
The outside yard area is huge and gorgeous with plenty of seating. I think having that outdoor access is key.

We could not be happier. Staff is lovely. A few hiccups in the beginning but honestly nothing big.
Very clean and smells clean. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for assisted to memory care.
